The IU International University is a private, state-recognized university. The university has been institutionally accredited for a total of 10 years by the German Council of Science and Humanities. This means that it has successfully demonstrated its ability as a non-state university to provide research and teaching services that meet recognized scientific standards.
In addition, FIBAA certifies five of IU's study programs to be of particularly high quality. FIBAA awards its premium seal for excellent performance, particularly those with a strategy-based and international profile.
In the CHE University Ranking, IU has the most top rankings among all German universities. Dual Study in Germany
In the Dual Study Programme, practice and theory are optimally linked. The Dual Bachelor's Degree Programme at IU usually lasts just 7 semesters or 3.5 years, hardly longer than a full-time study programme without practical elements - except that dual students acquire intensive practical experience during this time.
The IU currently offers around 20 dual degree programmes from Business Administration to Business Informatics at numerous locations in Germany, such as in Augsburg, Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Erfurt, Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg, Hannover, Cologne, Leipzig, Mainz, Mannheim, Munich, Münster, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart.
At IU, in the dual study programme, you study in one of the following two study models:
- In the Dual Study Programme, classes take place on campus two days a week - occasionally also online via live video conferencing. Subsequently, the learning content is deepened with the help of study materials.
- In the Dual myStudy Programme, you learn flexibly through self-study via myCampus, supported by digital learning materials and the AI learning assistant Syntea. Optional virtual events and live formats deepen your knowledge.
When searching for a practice partner, students are not alone. IU collaborates with over 15,000 practice partners in Germany, helping its prospective students find the right company.

Online Studies at IU
IU International University is the largest university and prepares over 100,000 students in online studies for numerous bachelor's and master's degrees.
Distance learning at IU is especially flexible: With 3 different time models, ranging from full-time studies in 6 semesters for bachelor's degrees to part-time studies in 12 semesters, students can take their exams from home as online exams around the clock if they wish. Alternatively, tests can be taken at one of the over 40 study centers in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.
Offered are over 100 bachelor's and master's programs in all subject areas, from Health & Social Affairs, IT & Technology to Business & Management. Particularly popular is the MBA distance learning program, which lasts only 2 semesters, as well as the B.A. Business Administration program.

All of these education-related bachelor’s programmes at IU are taught exclusively in German. This applies to the distance learning, dual, and full-time study options. The programmes are aimed at people who want to work in educational, counselling, or leadership roles in childcare, schools, healthcare, or adult education. Admission is possible not only with the traditional German Abitur (university entrance qualification), but also—under certain conditions—with a completed vocational training and relevant professional experience.
Currently, IU does not offer a bachelor’s degree in education that is taught in English.
