Dual Studies in Saxony-Anhalt
Dual study programmes are becoming increasingly popular and in demand among prospective students in Saxony-Anhalt. This is a practice-oriented form of study in which theoretical teaching content at a university or university of cooperative education is combined with practical experience in a company.
The structure of a dual study programme is usually such that students alternate between theoretical phases at the university and practical phases in the company. This enables students to gain valuable work experience during their studies and to apply their theoretical knowledge directly in practice.
This creates a close link between theory and practice, which gives students a comprehensive insight into their future profession and allows companies to train future specialists according to their specific requirements.
In addition, the training companies normally pay the tuition fees. Students receive remuneration for their practical work and also have good career opportunities after graduation, as they already have professional experience and contacts in the world of work.

Study without Abitur in Saxony-Anhalt
Students who do not have a school-leaving certificate for higher education, but who have completed vocational training and have the corresponding work experience, can still realise their wish to study. This is colloquially referred to as "studying without an Abitur".
In the case of subject-linked access to higher education for those with vocational qualifications, it is possible to study without an Abitur if you can prove that you have successfully completed vocational training and have several years of professional experience in a related subject area.
Holders of vocational upgrading qualifications, such as master craftsman, technician or business administrator, are generally entitled to the general higher education entrance qualification, which also applies to high school graduates. This means that they have the same access requirements as prospective students with an Abitur.
In addition, other vocationally qualified persons who have neither completed upgrading training nor wish to study a subject-related degree also have the opportunity to study without an Abitur. Some higher education institutions offer special admission examinations for this group.
These opportunities to study without an Abitur are offered by the private universities in Saxony-Anhalt:
- At Steinbeis University, it is possible to take up a course of study without an Abitur by providing evidence of completed vocational training and several years of full-time professional experience or by providing evidence of a master craftsman's examination or a comparable qualification from a vocational upgrading course.
- IU International University of Applied Sciences offers trial studies for prospective students with two years of full-time vocational training and work experience, or admission through an entrance examination.
- In addition to a secondary school education and three years of vocational training, Diploma University of Applied Sciences also relies on the recognition of master craftsman's examinations or comparable vocational upgrading qualifications as admission requirements.
