Requirements & Target Group: Who is the Master's Programme in IT Management suitable for?
The Master's programme in IT Management at IU International University is aimed at all those who already have an initial university degree and want to specifically expand their competencies at the interface between IT and management. It is particularly aimed at graduates of computer science, business informatics, or business management programmes who aspire to leadership positions in IT management or already have some work experience. Also, individuals working in companies, authorities, or IT service providers who want to qualify in strategic information management, IT service and project management, or digital transformation belong to the target group.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the Master's in IT Management programme is based on clearly defined criteria depending on the chosen variant (60 ECTS or 120 ECTS programme):
- General: For both programme variants, a first degree (Bachelor's or Diploma) from a state-recognized or state university is required. The grade should be at least "Satisfactory."
- 60 ECTS Master (continuing education):
- For degrees with 240 or 210 ECTS points: At least 1 year of qualified work experience after the first degree.
- For degrees with 180 ECTS points: Either make up for 30 ECTS through additional courses and have 1 year of work experience OR have at least 2 years of relevant work experience after the first degree.
- 120 ECTS Master (consecutive):
- One year of qualified work experience after the initial degree is required. Those who do not yet have sufficient work experience can also be in relevant employment during the course of study.
- Recognition of Prior Learning: Practical work experience and previous study credits in IT Management can be recognized upon request. This can shorten the study duration and reduce costs.
- Start of Studies: Entry into the distance learning programme is possible at any time. There are no semester restrictions.
Additional evidence such as language proficiency is not required for the German-language programme.

- Interest in information technology and its business application
- Willingness to engage with topics such as IT architectures, project management, IT security, and digitization
- Self-organization and self-motivation for the flexible, predominantly independent distance learning
- Analytical and structured thinking
- Ideally, initial practical experience in IT or management

The program is 100% organized online and completely flexible. There are several time models available, tailored to individual life situations:
- Full-time: 2 semesters (60 ECTS) or 4 semesters (120 ECTS)
- Part-time models: 3 to 4 semesters (60 ECTS) or 6 to 8 semesters (120 ECTS)
- Start of studies: Possible at any time, no fixed semester schedule
- Learning format: Interactive online lectures, digital scripts, videos, and access to the learning app IU Learn
- Exams: Flexible online exams around the clock or at exam centres
- Practical relevance: Case studies, practical projects such as network topology or strategic analyses, immediate applicability in professional life
- Study extension: Extension of the study duration is possible at no additional cost if needed
