The European Distance Learning University Hamburg (Euro-FH) is a state-recognized private distance learning university based in Hamburg. It was founded in 2003 and is part of the German Continuing Education Society, a subsidiary of the Stuttgart-based Klett Group. The university is system-accredited by the Accreditation Council, program-accredited by FIBAA, and has received top ratings from the Science Council.
Euro-FH offers a comprehensive range of study programs with over 200 offerings in the form of bachelor's and master's degree programs, university certificates, and Nano Degrees. The programs are interdisciplinary and cover areas such as business administration, psychology, education, social work, IT, technology, health, and management. The programs can be completed through distance learning or structured online evening courses.
The study model is specially tailored to the needs of working students. It allows for anytime enrollment, individual learning pace, and flexible examination options - with monthly online exams or at one of ten examination centers in Germany. A free extension of study time by up to 50% is possible. In addition, free attempts for exams and comprehensive recognition of prior learning are provided, allowing up to 50% savings in study time and costs.
The university follows a well-thought-out support concept with individual guidance from personal study advisors, experienced tutors, and academically qualified professors. Additionally, KILEA, a specially developed AI learning companion, is available around the clock. It provides real-time support to students with questions about study materials, refers to relevant content, and aids in knowledge checks. The use of AI-supported learning and work techniques is also part of many study programs.
The study materials are multimedia-based: available in print, digital, and audio versions. They are supplemented with webinars, videos, online tutorials, podcasts, self-tests, flashcard apps, and virtual libraries. The online campus serves as a central platform for organization, communication, and study management. All functions can be accessed via the "My Campus" app on mobile devices.
In online evening courses, students learn in small groups with a fixed study schedule and interactive live webinars two evenings a week. This model combines structured teaching with personal support and is particularly suitable for working professionals who value regular interaction and clear processes.
Euro-FH offers access to bachelor's programs even without a high school diploma through alternative qualification certificates (i.e. with German educational/professional qualifications or equivalents). Through the Master's entry program, experienced professionals without an undergraduate degree can be admitted to a master's program. There is also the possibility to have study credits from previous studies and professional training recognized - either in a lump sum or individually.
International experiences are enabled through two-week international seminars at partner universities in Denmark, Great Britain, Poland, Spain, and China. These on-site phases include lectures, excursions, and intercultural exchange formats. Students can receive funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) based on their performance.
Euro-FH is actively engaged in research and university teaching. The Center for Higher Education Didactics and the Hamburg Institute for Applied Research (HIfAF) established in 2023 conduct application-oriented research with a close practical reference. Research projects and university didactics measures are regularly documented and further developed.
Sustainability is a key guiding principle of the university. Euro-FH aligns its studies, research, organization, and operations with the principles of ecological, economic, and social sustainability. It participates in the UNESCO program "Education for Sustainable Development (BNE) 2030", is a member of the German Society for Sustainability in Higher Education, and engages in networks like the Hamburg University Alliance for Sustainability.
Euro-FH holds the Hamburger Family Seal as an especially family-friendly employer and commits to equal opportunities, diversity, and a discrimination-free study environment. It is a member of the Association of Private Universities, the European Association for Distance Learning (EADL), and the Association of Distance Learning Providers.
Collaborations with renowned partners from academia and business - such as Fraunhofer IML, Bielefeld University, Abels Kallwass Stitz, as well as international universities - ensure practical, up-to-date teaching and a close link to the job market. The range of study programs is continuously updated and aligned with the requirements of professional practice.
