The Bachelor’s degree programme Applied Computer Science at Euro-FH is aimed at individuals who want to actively shape digital technologies and develop practical IT solutions for business and industry. It is targeted at working professionals, career changers, as well as school leavers with a university entrance qualification who want to study computer science with a focus on applications. The distance learning programme is particularly suitable for those who want to acquire solid skills in computer science, software development, IT security or digitalisation flexibly and independent of location, and prepare for roles such as IT administration, application support, development or IT consulting.
Which admission requirements must you fulfil?
There are three routes to admission for the Bachelor’s degree in Applied Computer Science:
- With university entrance qualification: General higher education entrance qualification, advanced technical college entrance qualification or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
- Without university entrance qualification through professional qualification: Successful completion of a vocational training programme of at least two years, followed by at least three years of professional experience in a relevant field of activity.
- Subject-specific advanced training examination: Master craftsman examination, advanced training qualifications in accordance with the Vocational Training Act (e.g. specialist supervisor, specialist merchant, state-certified technician or business administrator).
For admission without a school-based university entrance qualification, a counselling interview is usually required and, if applicable, an aptitude test must be taken. Credit can be granted for previously completed achievements (e.g. from studies or further training) which may shorten the duration of study.
On a personal level, you should have analytical thinking skills, an interest in IT structures and digital innovations, as well as a willingness to work independently. An affinity for mathematics, structured problem solving and enthusiasm for new technologies will facilitate the start of your studies. For distance learning, self-organisation and time management are important. Initial practical experience with information and communication technologies is advantageous but not a prerequisite.

A special feature is the opportunity to specialise in one of 16 current areas of computer science. You set your own priorities, e.g., in Big Data Management, IT Security, App Programming, Human-Computer Interaction, Business Informatics, Artificial Intelligence or Logistic & Supply Chain.
The degree programme equips you with solid skills in the planning, development and operation of IT systems – as well as in the solution of complex computer science problems in a business context.
How does the distance learning programme in Applied Computer Science work?
The course is designed as a flexible distance learning programme and can be perfectly combined with work and family life. You can start at any time, learn at your own pace and benefit from a multimedia learning environment with the following elements:
- Module-based structure: 180 ECTS, standard period of study: optional 36 or 48 months, with free extension of 18 or 24 months respectively
- Learning materials: Written materials, digital learning media, audio study guides, webinars, online tutorials, podcasts, learning apps and the AI learning companion KILEA
- Examinations: Monthly, flexible, online or at 10 nationwide examination centres
- Seminars: 9 compulsory seminar days, mostly online, partly on site in Hamburg
- Personal support: Study advisors, tutors and dedicated professors ensure the quality of individual support
By choosing a specialisation, you design your studies individually and can take up to five or six advanced modules from your preferred area.

The course mainly takes place online and is therefore location-independent and flexibly designed. You can take exams monthly online or at one of the 10 examination centres in Germany. Additionally, there are 9 seminar days, offered either online or partially as face-to-face events at the Euro-FH campus at Doberaner Weg 20, 22143 Hamburg. Attendance is minimal in distance learning – you decide for yourself whether and when to participate on site in Hamburg.
What costs and funding options should you expect for the Bachelor’s degree in Applied Computer Science?
The total costs amount to €15,216, payable in monthly instalments from €317 (exemplary for 48 months). Depending on the chosen payment model, the monthly burden may vary. If you have already acquired preliminary achievements, e.g. with IHK qualifications, a recognition of up to 90 credits is possible – reducing your tuition fees by up to 50%.
