Which admission requirements must you fulfil?

There are three routes to admission for the Bachelor’s degree in Applied Computer Science:

  • With university entrance qualification: General higher education entrance qualification, advanced technical college entrance qualification or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification.
  • Without university entrance qualification through professional qualification: Successful completion of a vocational training programme of at least two years, followed by at least three years of professional experience in a relevant field of activity.
  • Subject-specific advanced training examination: Master craftsman examination, advanced training qualifications in accordance with the Vocational Training Act (e.g. specialist supervisor, specialist merchant, state-certified technician or business administrator).

For admission without a school-based university entrance qualification, a counselling interview is usually required and, if applicable, an aptitude test must be taken. Credit can be granted for previously completed achievements (e.g. from studies or further training) which may shorten the duration of study.

On a personal level, you should have analytical thinking skills, an interest in IT structures and digital innovations, as well as a willingness to work independently. An affinity for mathematics, structured problem solving and enthusiasm for new technologies will facilitate the start of your studies. For distance learning, self-organisation and time management are important. Initial practical experience with information and communication technologies is advantageous but not a prerequisite.
