It is especially targeted at professionals with completed training in the social or educational field – such as childcare workers, curative education nurses – who want to deepen their skills academically and open up opportunities for advancement. Career changers as well as volunteers or those already practically active in the fields of childhood, youth, education and social work also gain access through the programme to recognised specialist and management roles in day-care centres, schools, after-school care, youth welfare institutions and other organisations working with children and young people.

What admission requirements apply to the programme?

To be admitted to the Bachelor Childhood and Youth Pedagogy, you need one of the following qualifications:

• General higher education entrance qualification, subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or university of applied sciences entrance qualification (Abitur, Fachabitur) – direct enrolment possible.
• Without Abitur: Applicants with a successfully completed subject-specific advanced training examination (e.g. master craftsman’s certificate, specialist business qualification, childcare worker, curative education nurse or a corresponding relevant advanced training) are also granted access.
• Vocational training plus work experience: Even without Abitur, you can be admitted if you have completed a relevant vocational training of at least two years and can provide proof of at least three years of relevant professional experience.

Recognition of previously completed training and further education (e.g. childcare worker, curative education nurse) as well as relevant practical experience is possible and can shorten the duration of study and the practical phase. There is no Numerus Clausus (NC), and the programme start is possible at any time.

The programme requires personal commitment to educational work with children and young people. You should enjoy interdisciplinary issues from pedagogy, psychology and social sciences and be interested in the further development of educational concepts. Important personal requirements include communication skills, empathy, willingness to reflect and teamwork orientation. For a successful distance learning programme, self-organisation, perseverance and the willingness to learn independently are also necessary. Initial practical experience in the educational field – be it through training, work or voluntary work – is advantageous but not mandatory.
