What formal criteria do you have to meet for admission?
For admission to the Master’s in Business Informatics you generally need a completed first degree (Bachelor, Diploma or Magister) with at least 180 ECTS credits, ideally with an IT, business or management focus. In addition, relevant professional experience after the first degree is required, for example in IT or business.
English language skills are expected, as parts of the course may be conducted in English.
Alternatively, admission without a university degree is possible via the Master’s entry programme if you have many years of relevant professional experience and further training for career advancement. There is no numerus clausus (NC). Previously acquired academic achievements can be individually credited towards the course.
Important personal requirements are interest in digitalisation topics, openness to new technologies and the ability to grasp interdisciplinary contexts. You should be able to think analytically and possess a high level of self-organisation as well as willingness to learn, since distance learning demands independent and flexible working. In the Master’s degree programme in Business Informatics (M.Sc.) at the European Distance Learning University Hamburg, you acquire comprehensive knowledge at the interface of IT, business, and management. The content is specifically tailored to the requirements of digital transformation:
- Management and Method Competencies: Fundamentals for managing complex IT projects, instruments for digital transformation, and practice-oriented methodological skills.
- Data Integration and Analysis: Advanced knowledge in the systematic integration and evaluation of corporate data as well as the use of modern analysis tools.

Programme Structure
The Master’s in Business Informatics is designed as a part-time and location-independent distance learning course. The study period is 24 months – a free extension of up to 12 months is possible if needed. You can start your studies flexibly.
- Learning Formats: Multimedia study materials, digital learning content, webinars, podcasts, and audio study booklets – individually and mobile available via the online campus.
- Seminars: Compact on-site seminars take place on up to 8 days in Hamburg (Doberaner Weg 20). Additionally, you participate in up to 4 days of online seminars.
- Examinations: Flexibly schedulable monthly – either online or at one of 10 examination centres throughout Germany. You can reschedule examination dates without extra costs if needed.
- Individual Support: Personal study counselling, tutors support you continuously, supplemented by an AI learning companion for subject-related questions.
- Elective Modules: Individual specialisation by choosing from various focuses in IT and management.
- Part-Time Organisation: Study in part-time or full-time possible – optimal compatibility with work and family.

Furthermore, there are examination centres in 10 German cities for on-site exams, which can also be taken flexibly online.

The tuition fees for the Master’s in Business Informatics amount to €12,504 (for 24 months of study: €521 monthly). Discounts or concessions are possible as part of regular promotions. Instalment payments are provided. The start of studies is flexibly possible at any time.
