Who is the Distance Learning Psychology Programme at HS Fresenius Suitable For?

The distance learning Psychology programme (B.Sc.) is aimed at individuals who wish to acquire a scientifically based understanding of human experience and behaviour – regardless of whether they already have a (specialised) university entrance qualification or bring professional qualifications and experience. The programme is suitable for employed professionals, career changers, and school leavers who want to advance their careers in areas such as human resources, coaching, education, work-related counselling, market and social research, or communication. In particular, those interested will benefit who want to complete a flexible, location-independent bachelor's degree and additionally have openness to digital learning and working methods.

What Formal Admission Requirements Apply?

You can begin the programme if you meet one of the following requirements:

  • General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur): Entitles you to study at all German universities and in all federal states.
  • Advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur) or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification: Entitles you to study depending on the federal state or subject area.
  • Master craftsman’s certificate or advanced training (at least 400 hours): For example, specialist business administrator, technician, state-certified business economist. Additionally, a subject-specific higher education entrance examination is required.
  • Completed vocational training of at least two years plus at least two years of full-time employment in a related professional field: Additionally, you must pass a subject-specific higher education entrance examination.
  • Intermediate school-leaving certificate and at least three years of vocational training (final grade 2.5 or better): You can start with a study agreement – provided that you achieve at least 30 ECTS in the first year of study or at least 18 ECTS in the first semester. If the final grade is below 2.5, the subject-specific higher education entrance examination must also be passed.
  • Career entry with professional qualification and aptitude test: Possible with at least two years of vocational training, three years of professional experience in a related field, and an advisory interview at the university.

No Numerus Clausus (NC) is required and the programme starts monthly.

You should have analytical thinking skills and an interest in academic work, as empirical methods and statistics make up an important part of the course. Self-motivation, time management, and the ability to learn independently online are crucial. Prior experience with digital learning platforms, openness to different perspectives, and willingness to critically question complex contexts are helpful. Study Content in Detail

In the Bachelor's degree programme in Psychology (B.Sc.) at Hochschule Fresenius, you acquire comprehensive knowledge of the scientific foundations and application areas of psychology. The curriculum is divided into three central areas:

  • Fundamentals of Psychology: Introduction to psychology, empirical-scientific work and statistics create the methodological foundation. You deal with central theories and concepts from General Psychology, Biological Psychology, Differential and Personality Psychology, Developmental Psychology as well as Social Psychology.
  • Psychological Diagnostics: You learn the basics of diagnostics as well as various diagnostic procedures and how to apply them practically.
  • Applied Subjects: The modules Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology and Work and Organisational Psychology teach you how psychological knowledge can be applied in different professional and societal contexts.

Additionally, you choose an elective complementary subject from the fields of Business Administration, Communication and Presentation, Intercultural Competences or Health Economics to develop interdisciplinary skills.

Specialisation subjects offer you the opportunity to set your own priorities, for example in Digitalisation in Education and Psychology, E-Health, Communication Psychology or Engineering Psychology. The degree is designed entirely as a flexible distance learning programme and can be completed with free time management. The regular study duration is 6 to 12 semesters (180 ECTS), depending on whether you study full-time or part-time. You can start your studies on the first day of any month.

  • Examinations: You can mostly complete examinations online. In a few cases, on-site exams are held; their number is minimised.

Costs and Financing Options for the Psychology Distance Learning Programme

The tuition fees for the Bachelor's degree programme in Psychology via distance learning amount to a total of approx. 15,058 euros. Depending on the chosen study duration (e.g. 72 months), the monthly instalment is 209 euros. Various pricing models are available, adapted to your individual study duration.
