MSH Medical School Hamburg – University of Applied Sciences and Medical University is a private higher education institution based in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Founded in 2009 and opened in the winter semester of 2010, MSH offers a wide range of degree programs in health sciences, human and social sciences, as well as art therapy and human medicine. The university consists of four faculties: the Faculties of Health Sciences and Art, Health and Social Science belong to the universities of applied sciences sector, while the Faculties of Human Sciences and Medicine hold university status.
MSH offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs as well as the state examination program in Human Medicine, all accredited by AHPGS. The university is state-recognized by the Hamburg Authority for Science and Research. Students can choose flexible study formats, including full-time, part-time, or work-integrated options.
The university started in 2010 with six degree programs and has since developed significantly. In 2013, the Faculty of Human Sciences was granted university status, and since 2019, students have been able to complete the entire medical degree at MSH. The pre-clinical phase takes place at the HafenCity campus, while the clinical training is conducted in cooperation with Helios Kliniken Schwerin. In the winter semester of 2024, more than 5,000 students were enrolled at MSH.
MSH’s academic portfolio is diverse and includes, among others: the state examination in Human Medicine; Bachelor’s programs such as Psychology (B.Sc.), Advanced Nursing Practice (B.Sc.), and Expressive Arts in Social Transformation (B.A.); and Master’s programs such as Psychology with a focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (M.Sc.), Digital Health Management (M.Sc.), and Intermedial Art Therapy (M.A.).
The university is characterized by its interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach. It offers modern learning environments across multiple locations, including the HafenCity campus in Hamburg with its central location and state-of-the-art facilities, as well as the Schwerin campus for medical students. Collaborations with renowned partners such as Helios Kliniken enable hands-on training and research.
The university is led by Managing Shareholder Ilona Renken-Olthoff and Rector Rainer Petzina. In addition to excellent academic support and a motivating learning environment, MSH promotes the compatibility of studies, career, and family through flexible study models.
