Admission requirements
The following admission requirements apply for enrolment in the part-time Bachelor's degree programme in Medical Education:
- General university entrance qualification, subject-specific university entrance qualification, or the advanced technical college entrance qualification in accordance with § 37 HmbHG
- or special access for working professionals according to § 38 HmbHG through an entrance examination (in accordance with the entrance examination regulations of the university) and an interview,
- completed vocational training in a specialist profession in the health and social care sector or a comparable qualification
- typically two years of professional experience in the training occupation or comparable experience as a teacher in practical vocational instruction
- possibility of further studies in accordance with § 38 HmbHG
The following professional qualifications are admitted
- Nursing professions: elderly care, health and nursing care, paediatric nursing, obstetrician/midwife
- Physicians of all specialities
- Medical technical assistant professions: MTAF, MTRA, MTLA, MTAO/OTA, ATA, Orthoptist, PTA
- Therapeutic allied health professions: occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech therapist, motopedist, masseur
- other non-medical allied health professions: medical and dental assistants, dental technicians, pharmaceutical-commercial employees, paramedic, emergency paramedic, podiatrist, dietitian
- Social professions: home and family carers, curative education nurses, educators/youth and residential care workers, special education teacher
The degree programmes at MSH Medical School Hamburg are free of admission restrictions (NC): talent, motivation and discipline count more than the grade point average on the certificate. Punctuality, good performance and commitment during the studies are, however, of great importance.

The Bachelor's degree programme in Medical Education qualifies graduates to work as practical instructors at vocational schools in the healthcare sector as well as practical trainers in the training of healthcare vocational students. The Bachelor's degree programme is offered at the Faculty of Health Sciences at MSH Medical School Hamburg and provides a course offering that takes into account the increasing qualification requirements for teaching staff in healthcare.
With regard to teacher training according to the standards of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, the Bachelor's degree programme represents the first phase of study. After successful completion of the Bachelor's degree, students can proceed to the Master's degree programme in Medical Education (M.Ed.) at the Faculty of Human Sciences (University). This enables access to the public school system (preparatory service/traineeship).
The Bachelor's degree programme is officially recognised and professionally accredited.
