Admission requirements

For admission to the Master's degree programme in Social Work, the following admission requirements apply:

  • Qualification for study in Master's degree programmes according to §39 HmbHG,
  • First professional qualifying university degree (Diploma, Bachelor) in Social Work, Transdisciplinary Early Intervention, Social Pedagogy, or a comparable degree programme.

The degree programmes at MSH Medical School Hamburg are free of NC restrictions: talent, motivation, and discipline count more than the grade point average on the certificate. Punctuality, good performance, and commitment during the course of study, however, are of great importance.

The Master's degree programme in Social Work at the Faculty of Health Sciences (University of Applied Sciences) of MSH focuses, alongside a solid foundation and methodological training, on the key application areas of social work: working with individuals with addiction disorders, in the field of child welfare endangerment, in rehabilitation and health promotion, as well as working with people with mental illnesses. In the elective section of the Master's programme, the areas of addiction, child welfare, intercultural competencies, rehabilitation and health, as well as crisis intervention can be chosen, all of which are in high demand in the job market.

Central objectives of the Master's degree programme are to enable independent scientific work as well as practical work based on scientific principles in all thematic areas of social work. The target group for social work activities comprises people of different ages in special and difficult life situations with mental illnesses and behavioural disorders who have individual support needs.

The Master's degree programme is officially recognised and professionally accredited.
