Admission requirements
The following admission requirements apply for entry into the Bachelor's degree in Social Work:
- General higher education entrance qualification, subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, or the advanced technical college entrance qualification according to § 37 HmbHG
- or special access for employed persons according to § 38 HmbHG via an entrance examination (in accordance with the entrance examination regulations) and an interview
- A preliminary internship of at least one month in a facility of the social and health sector recognised by the university in accordance with the admission regulations. The internship can be completed, for example, in integrative kindergartens, nursing homes, or institutions for refugee and life assistance.
The degree programmes at MSH Medical School Hamburg are free of NC restrictions: talent, motivation and discipline count more than the grade average on the certificate. Punctuality, good performance and commitment during the course of study, however, are of great importance.

Reasons for this include new social and legal responsibilities in the areas of refugee and migration work, child protection, youth social work, parental education support, and integration assistance for children and adolescents with (impending) mental disabilities. Well-trained personnel are also needed for health promotion and rehabilitation of people with chronic and mental illnesses. An important area is also inclusion in the education sector.
The aim of the Bachelor's degree programme in Social Work at MSH Medical School Hamburg is an academic education that not only provides approaches to solving acute problems but also opens up analytical and preventive perspectives. For this purpose, scientific, well-founded specialist knowledge is imparted on the one hand, while the promotion of a professional attitude, personal stability, and self-critical reflection skills takes place on the other. To prepare you as best as possible for collaboration with various professional groups, MSH places great emphasis on imparting a wide range of competences from the fields of medicine, pedagogy, medical therapy, psychology, art, and social work.
A focus of the Bachelor's degree programme in Social Work, offered in the Faculty of Health Sciences (University of Applied Sciences), lies in creative action and thinking. Thus, you acquire knowledge from the fields of visual and performing arts, such as theatre, film, and movement. You learn to incorporate creative methods as meaningful support in social work.
