FOM. The University. For Professionals.
With more than 42,000 students, FOM is one of the largest private universities in Germany. FOM is supported by the non-profit foundation BildungsCentrum der Wirtschaft, based in Essen. It offers working professionals the opportunity to academically qualify parallel to their job and obtain nationally and internationally recognized bachelor's and master's degrees. The focus of the teaching is on practice-oriented degree programs in the fields of business administration, business & law, health & social services, IT management, and engineering.
The lectures in the modern lecture halls and seminar rooms take place outside of regular working hours in the evenings and on weekends at 29 university centers nationwide. In contrast to distance learning, this on-site concept enables optimal support for students: they have personal contact with their lecturers and classmates, exchange knowledge on the curriculum, and discuss experiences or problems. This promotes student motivation and improves the transfer of learning into practice.
Practical relevance is highly valued at FOM: founded in 1991 by business associations, the university still maintains close relationships with over 800 partner companies, including corporations like IBM, Peek & Cloppenburg, Siemens, and Telekom, as well as medium-sized enterprises. Many company representatives are involved in the university's committees, providing important input for establishing new study centers and developing new study programs.
A well-structured organization also guarantees the quality of teaching and research at FOM: the rectorate, study and program directors, as well as deans, ensure that the university's curricula always correspond to the latest scientific knowledge and that the lecturers continually enhance their didactic skills.
An overall concept that convinces. In 2004, FOM became the first university in North Rhine-Westphalia to receive the seal of the German Science Council. The FIBAA assessment is also positive: in 2012, FOM became the first private and fourth German university to receive system accreditation, confirming its position among universities with the best quality management.
