To be admitted to the degree programme, you need one of the following qualifications:
- General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (Fachabitur).
- Alternatively: a completed vocational training programme plus at least three years of subsequent professional experience.
- Or: a completed advanced vocational training qualification, for example as a certified specialist (Fachwirt/in), master craftsman (Meister/in).
Regardless of your educational background, current employment is also required – either full-time or part-time, in training, an internship, a trainee programme, or a voluntary service. Over 7 semesters (3.5 years), you attend modules in the evenings and on Saturdays – a schedule specially designed for working professionals. Each semester, study content is delivered in on-site lecture halls as well as supplemented by digital live lectures. Before each semester, you have the option to take individual modules virtually or to change your study location. The programme includes compulsory modules, interdisciplinary projects, a specialised study project, and a final seminar with a Bachelor's thesis. What are the costs of the Industrial Engineering course and what financing options are available?
The tuition fees amount to 495 euros monthly over a period of 42 months, a total of 20,790 euros. Additionally, a one-off examination fee of 500 euros applies. FOM is a non-profit institution – the fees are invested in teaching, research, and modern study formats. The course fees are generally tax deductible. Already acquired credits (e.g., from training or professional development) can be recognised, thereby reducing the duration and cost of the studies. It is possible to apply for up to two leave semesters without fees. In special hardship cases, FOM University supports you with individual payment arrangements. For financing, state subsidies such as Upgrading BAföG or a student loan are also options.
