German-language Degree Programme Management (IT Management)
Degree: Master of Arts (M.A.)
IT management operates at the interface between business administration and information technology issues.
IT specialists, engineers and economists develop an IT strategy aligned with the company's objectives and business processes and implement it through appropriate IT services. They also design the IT’s organisational structure and workflows so that the services can be delivered at the best possible quality with the lowest possible cost.
The particular challenge of the entire field arises primarily from its shaping function and the linkage of business administration issues with IT topics. Therefore, the course conveys management skills and specialist knowledge in a coordinated manner so that future-proof IT architectures can be developed in accordance with budget requirements.
COURSE CONTENT AND STRUCTURE:
The Master of Arts IT Management programme at the Graduate School consists of a total of 17 modules. In the first three semesters, five modules each are scheduled, and the fourth semester is devoted to the preparation of the Master Thesis with an accompanying project seminar.
Semester 1: Students gain an overview of innovative approaches for IT architectures and IT infrastructure processes using practical scenarios. Further subjects in the semester include methodological knowledge for the IT and quantitative areas. A business simulation game trains the necessary business understanding of companies and markets, while the module »Wirtschaftsrecht« clarifies fundamental legal possibilities and limitations for the development and use of IT solutions.
Semester 2: Participants become familiar with fundamental approaches of the theory of science, computer science theory and theories of applied economics. They learn about all aspects of the systematic engineering development of software systems including project and quality management. Within the framework of case studies, projects are worked on under realistic conditions and in teams to prepare students for leadership positions in the IT environment. Finally, participants gain insight into technology and architecture of modern computer networks as well as into security management.
Semester 3: The core competencies of IT interface management are the focus: leadership skills are conveyed and IT processes that support management are analysed in detail. Additionally, students gain an overview of interdisciplinary aspects of computer science such as history, law and ethics. The specialist knowledge is rounded off by imparting sound knowledge in the area of e-business, operational application systems as well as financial engineering.
Semester 4: Master Thesis and corresponding project seminar
