Details

As a technical editor, you have the necessary know-how when it comes to presenting complex technical matters in an understandable way. In an increasingly digital world, it is more important than ever that technical products and instructions are clear to users. After completing your studies as a technical editor, you work closely with engineers and product managers to ensure that technical products and instructions are clear and precise. Digitalisation is increasing the demand for professionals in this field – according to estimates, there are around 4,000 open positions annually in the technical editing sector in Germany.

The Bachelor’s degree programme “Technical Editing and Information Design” (B.A.) prepares you optimally for the challenges that graduates of this subject area face in the 7-semester (online) distance learning course. This is especially important as the professional profile of technical editing is evolving. Media convergence brings together the formerly opposing fields of technical communication in user manuals and accompanying documentation for machines and systems on the one hand, and marketing communication on the other. Technical editing thus becomes a more active part of marketing. Technical communication is no longer just about user-friendliness. Information products must also integrate into the brand image. This creates a need for skills in corporate communications.

During your studies, you will expand your knowledge and your core professional competences, among others, in the following areas:
• Scientific and technical fundamentals
• Text competencies of technical editing
• Informatics in technical editing
• Documentation conception
