Admission requirements
The following requirements must be met to be admitted to the Craft Design degree programme:
• Proof of the commencement or completion of a craft apprenticeship
and possession of one of the following qualifications:
• General university entrance qualification (Abitur)
• University of applied sciences entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife)
• Passed master craftsman’s examination
• Intermediate school-leaving certificate (at least Realschulabschluss) and a qualified graduation from a recognised vocational training programme of at least 3 years, which has an average or overall final grade of 2.5 or better (if these grades are not indicated, the arithmetic mean of the individual subject grades applies)
• Proof of outstanding scientific or artistic aptitude through an aptitude test of DIPLOMA Hochschule at the start of studies

Details
Craft businesses are particularly affected by the shortage of skilled workers. They can hardly find qualified employees. In addition, there is a vacancy at the interface with corporate management. The trial study programme Craft Design offers attractive professional prospects for employees in the creative craft sector: At the interface between crafts, design and business management, you can in future act as a competent partner to architects, design studios and clients with design expertise and entrepreneurial understanding.
With the trial Bachelor's degree programme "Craft Design" (B.A.), classical craftsmanship and academic training are linked in a 9-semester (online) distance learning course. This special study concept between crafts and design is pioneering and provides a basis for excellent career prospects.
During your studies, you will expand your knowledge and your core professional competencies, among others, in the following fields:
• Basics of design (such as representation, form design, form and colour)
• Subject-specific basics (such as materials science, language and communication as well as design history)
• Technical basics (such as product photography, digital design processes and construction)
Course structure
At DIPLOMA University of Applied Sciences, you have the opportunity to study the Bachelor's degree programme Craft Design either as an online course or as a distance learning course on site.
The (online) distance learning course at DIPLOMA University of Applied Sciences is designed according to the "blended learning" principle. This means you work through the study content using study booklets and attend seminars. These usually take place on 12 to 14 Saturdays per semester – in individual cases also on weekday evenings. In the online course, these take place as live online seminars. You can also take your exams online or at an examination centre of your choice. In the on-site distance learning course, you complete your real presence seminars and exams at your chosen study centre – in Hanover.
Costs & registration
The (online) distance learning course at DIPLOMA University of Applied Sciences starts every year in the summer semester (April) and winter semester (October). Starting your studies is – after individual assessment – also possible at any other time.
You can choose one of two financing models. For example, the instalment model 2, with €221.25 per month and a term of 72 months. Details about the instalment models and all other information about the degree programme can be found on the Craft Design programme page.
