The Fashion Design course at Macromedia University is aimed at anyone who wants to combine their passion for fashion with practical creativity and scientific expertise. It is particularly addressed to school graduates with (advanced) vocational entrance qualification, but also to applicants with relevant vocational training and practical experience in the textile or fashion sector. If you are interested in current fashion trends, artistic and creative work, and the development of your own collections, you will find a solid education here to become a fashion designer – from fashion illustration to fashion production.

What are the formal admission requirements for the Fashion Design course?

Several pathways are available for admission:

  • You need a general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (Abitur or Fachabitur).
  • You can also be admitted with completed, thematically relevant vocational training (at least two years) and at least two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Alternatively, access is possible via the Mittlere Reife (intermediate school leaving certificate) if you also have at least two years of vocational training and two years of professional experience. In this case, passing an aptitude test is required.
  • A specific grade point average (numerus clausus) is not required.
  • Additionally, you must include a tabular CV with your application.

Applicants without (advanced) vocational entrance qualifications undergo an aptitude test, which must be completed within 48 hours. To pass, a minimum of 30 out of 60 points is required in both parts of the test.

For the Fashion Design course, you should bring creative curiosity, a sense for trends, and enjoyment in designing fashion. Manual skills, drawing abilities, and a strong interest in aesthetic design are helpful. Openness to practice-oriented project work, commitment to teamwork, and the willingness to engage intensively with the cultural, technical, and economic aspects of the fashion industry are important personal prerequisites.

What do you learn in the Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design at Macromedia University?

In the Fashion Design course, you acquire a broad spectrum of creative, technical and theoretical skills. Projects such as developing your own fashion artefacts and organising your own fashion show enhance your ability to realise fashion ideas to a presentable stage. Furthermore, you engage with the history of fashion, societal aspects of design and modern tools such as CAD to visualise your designs. Practical techniques of garment construction and draping pattern cutting are also part of the curriculum, as well as entrepreneurship and knowledge about the fashion industry.

How does the Fashion Design degree work?
