Requirements and Target Group
The Master's programme in Real Estate Management at Hochschule Fresenius is aimed at graduates of economically oriented and technical Bachelor's degree programmes who wish to qualify for specialist and management positions in the real estate sector. The programme is directed at both economists and applicants with degrees in architecture, civil or engineering sciences, urban or regional planning, law or social sciences. It particularly addresses those who aspire to management roles in project development, investment, asset or corporate real estate management, or who want to actively shape the transformation of the industry through innovative and sustainable solutions.
What formal admission criteria apply?
For admission to the Master's programme in Real Estate Management, you need:
- A first professionally qualifying higher education degree (e.g. Bachelor) with at least 180 ECTS credit points
- The degree must be in one of the following fields: architecture, civil or engineering sciences, urban and regional planning, economics, law or social sciences
- Proof of professional competencies in relevant practical application amounting to at least 10 ECTS or 250 hours (e.g. internship, practical project, relevant professional activity or project management experience)
If required practical experience or ECTS points are lacking, passing an entrance test is necessary. No specific final grade is required; there is no numerus clausus.
You should have an interest in real estate economic contexts as well as basic analytical skills. Experience in project development or construction is helpful but not mandatory. In addition to professional commitment, organisational skills, personal responsibility and the willingness to oversee complex processes are important. Communication and teamwork skills are advantageous when working with different professional groups (e.g. architects, investors, authorities). Advanced English skills will support you in international topics and literature. An affinity for digital processes and motivation to engage with sustainability and current innovations in real estate management are recommended.
Detailed Study Content
In the Master's programme in Real Estate Management at Hochschule Fresenius, you will engage with all central questions of the real estate industry. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics – suitable both for economists and for lateral entrants from other fields. The focal points are interdisciplinary and oriented towards current challenges in the sector:
- Core concepts of real estate management: fundamentals from business administration, urban and construction planning, as well as architecture
- International real estate management and intercultural management
- Project development: planning, control, financing and contract design
- Real estate financing, investment and valuation (including Mergers & Acquisitions)
- Corporate governance & compliance in the real estate sector
- Sustainability, digitalisation and digital applications in the real estate industry
- Building law and specific legal frameworks
- Empirical methods and research projects in real estate management
Through elective modules, you can individually sharpen your profile, e.g. with focuses on construction in project development, real estate accounting, controlling, risk management or an International Real Estate Experience. In the master’s colloquium and the final master’s thesis, you will deepen a practical topic independently.
Course Structure
The full-time programme is designed for four semesters and comprises a total of 120 ECTS credits. Your studies follow the innovative 3-day-master concept: you have on-site sessions at your respective campus on three fixed days per week. This leaves you time on the remaining days for independent study, part-time jobs or practical experience, for example in the context of working student positions.
You can start the course each winter semester. The groups are small, the teaching practice-oriented and you benefit from experienced lecturers from the industry.
The modular structure allows a high degree of flexibility in course selection and targeted specialisation through elective modules. Empirical methods and practice-oriented projects are firmly integrated into the curriculum. You will complete your studies with the master’s thesis.

With the master’s degree, you qualify for demanding positions across the entire spectrum of the real estate industry. Typical professional fields for graduates are:
- Real estate developer: planning, conception and management of refurbishment, new building and conversion projects
- Corporate Real Estate Management: strategic management of company properties and internal project development
- Investment management: market analysis, consulting and implementation of investments in real estate, including risk and portfolio management
- Project management, consulting and digitalisation of real estate processes
- Leadership positions in planning offices, construction companies, estate agencies, asset management or real estate funds

Study Location: Hamburg, Cologne or Munich
You will complete your studies in face-to-face format at one of Hochschule Fresenius’s three locations: Hamburg, Cologne or Munich.
Hamburg offers modern rooms near the Alster, Cologne scores with an urban location in MediaPark and Munich with a campus in the green Schwabing district. Each location is very well connected in terms of infrastructure and embedded in a lively economic region.
Cross-city networking and practical relevance are additionally promoted by the partner network of Hochschule Fresenius. Changing location during the course of study is possible.
Costs and Financing
The tuition fees amount to 850 euros monthly, spread over the four semesters (total costs: 20,400 euros). In addition, there is a one-time registration fee of 695 euros. The package includes all examination performances, the use of StudyPLUS offers (e.g. language courses, networking events, personal development) and numerous additional options.
There are various options for financing: you can apply for BAföG, use scholarships or take out a student loan. Hochschule Fresenius supports you in selecting and applying for financial aid. Thanks to the 3-day model, you also have time for part-time employment alongside your studies.
