Who is the Distance Learning Course in Industrial Engineering Suitable For?

The Bachelor's distance learning course in Industrial Engineering at Hochschule Fresenius is aimed at everyone who wants to work at the interface between technology and business. It especially addresses individuals who are equally interested in scientific-technical questions as well as in business processes. The target group includes school graduates with (advanced) technical college entrance qualifications, as well as professionally qualified individuals who wish to further qualify for an engineering degree through vocational training or advanced training. Career changers from related professional fields who want to develop further in project management, production, or quality management will also find suitable content in the degree programme.

What Formal Admission Requirements Do You Need to Meet?

Admission to the distance learning course in Industrial Engineering (B.Eng.) is possible via several routes:

  • General university entrance qualification (Abitur): Direct access to all courses of study at universities in Germany.
  • Advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur) or subject-specific university entrance qualification: Study in the specified subject area and in the corresponding federal state.
  • Professional qualification: Without the Abitur, you can be admitted with a completed vocational training of at least two years and at least two years of subsequent professional experience in a field related to the degree course. Additionally, a subject-specific university entrance examination is required.
  • Advanced training: Persons who have passed a master craftsman’s examination, advanced training to become a technician or business administrator (at least 400 hours) can apply. A subject-specific university entrance examination is also necessary here.
  • Special case: Those who can prove a secondary school leaving certificate as well as at least three years of vocational training (final grade 2.5 or better) can start with a study agreement. If the grade is lower, an aptitude test must be taken. In this case, a certain performance record (at least 18 ECTS in the first semester or 30 ECTS in the first academic year) must be achieved.

You should have an interest in engineering and economic topics—prior knowledge in the technical or commercial field is advantageous but not mandatory. For access based on professional qualification, relevant professional experience in a technical or economic environment is required.

Personal prerequisites include analytical thinking skills and the willingness to engage with complex technical as well as economic issues. You should bring self-motivation and organisational talent, as the distance learning course requires a high degree of independence. Communication skills and teamwork abilities are helpful, as industrial engineers often work in interface roles. An interest in digitalisation, process optimisation, and project-based work rounds off the profile of requirements.
