The University of Applied Sciences for Management (HdWM) is a private, state-recognised university based in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg. It was founded in 2011 and specialises in courses in the field of management and business. With its motto "The promoted management degree", HdWM offers a practice-oriented and business-oriented study model that is characterised by a close integration of theory and practice.
HdWM is located on the educational campus of the former site of Joseph Vögele AG in Mannheim and has modern lecture rooms, including facilities in the new building of the Goethe-Institut. Currently, the university has 320 students (as of summer semester 2023) and employs 115 staff, including 19 professors (as of 2022).
Degree CoursesHdWM offers a total of eight degree courses leading to a Bachelor (B.A./B.Sc.) or Master (M.A./M.Sc.) qualification. The Bachelor's degree courses include:
Business administration with specialisations such as consulting and sales management, management in international business, as well as social work - integration management.
Psychology and management, an interdisciplinary course that combines business psychology with management competences.
In the field of Master's degree courses, the university offers the M.A. Business Management with specialisations in international sales management, HR management, and IT management, as well as the M.Sc. Business Psychology with a focus on organizational psychology.
All degree courses are accredited by the accreditation agencies FIBAA or AHPGS.
Further EducationIn addition to regular study programs, HdWM offers part-time further education courses. These include specialized certificates such as "Integration Management in the Work System" or "Leadership and Management in Municipal Administration". Individually tailored in-house certificates are specifically designed to meet the needs of businesses and non-profit organizations.
ResearchHdWM focuses on research closely related to the job market and supports projects tailored to the needs of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Examples include the research project QUAPI and the Institute for Social Sustainability (ifsn). Bachelor students have the opportunity to gain practical experience in research modules in the 3rd semester.
PartnershipsThe sponsoring organisation of HdWM, the University of Applied Sciences for Management gGmbH, is supported by the International Bund (IB) as the majority shareholder. Partners include more than 50 companies and institutions such as the Goethe-Institut Mannheim-Heidelberg and universities in Tunisia and Turkey. The Career Network @ HdWM promotes close collaboration between companies, students, and alumni.
Accreditation and Quality ManagementSince its establishment, HdWM has been officially recognised and was last accredited by the Science Council in 2021 for another five years. Continuous quality management ensures the optimization of teaching, research, and administration. Regular audits contribute to the development of the university.
