Admission requirements
Admission to the degree programme is granted to those who
- in accordance with § 49 HG, have the general higher education entrance qualification, the advanced technical college entrance qualification, or an equivalent recognised university entrance qualification, and
- can prove a 6-week pre-internship in a field of social work or complete it by the end of the first academic year at the latest. (Alternatively, a voluntary social year or a one-year internship within the framework of the specialised secondary school certificate in a field of social work can also be provided.)

In the full-time degree programme in Social Work, both fundamental professional knowledge and practice-oriented action competencies are the focus. You need both to address social issues as a social worker, to impart help towards self-help, and to design educational offerings for people of all age groups.
During the course of your studies, you will have the opportunity to gain insights into very different areas of social work and to gather practical experience during your supervised practical phases. The fields of application are very diverse, ranging from child and youth welfare to family counselling or work in disability support to refugee assistance. In your studies, you will learn how to support people in very different life situations in enabling a socially integrated and self-determined life.
You can complete the degree within 6 semesters and then either enter employment immediately or further qualify yourself through a master's degree. In any case, the job market shows a high demand for academically trained professionals, to which you will have very good access with your degree in a wide variety of specialised fields.
The Social Work degree can be studied in four variants.
Full-time study: 6 semesters
Part-time study: 7 semesters
Dual study: 7 semesters
Work-study programme: 5 semesters
