Details
The Bachelor's programme in Humanities, the Arts, and Social Thought at Bard College Berlin is a versatile study programme that provides students with a solid education in the humanities. The programme emphasizes engaging with important intellectual developments, foundational works, and debates that form the basis of the disciplines of social and natural sciences, as well as the practical arts. It is designed for students pursuing careers in the fields of humanities, art, and sociology.
Part of the curriculum involves a core curriculum that discusses significant texts and artifacts from the cultural heritages of Europe and the world. In addition, students choose between majors in Art and Aesthetics, Ethics and Politics, as well as Literature and Rhetoric. Within the programme, acquiring the German language from beginner to advanced levels is possible, with basic proficiency required by the end of the second year of study.
Furthermore, a variety of elective courses in Studio Arts, Philosophy, Art History, Literature, and Social Theory are available. An exchange semester or an internship for practical training in the third year of study are also part of the programme. In the final year of study, students write their bachelor's thesis, supervised by a faculty member. This can be combined with a creative component involving artistic works in a public presentation.
