Who is the Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management (M.A.) suitable for?

The Master’s programme in Healthcare Management (M.A.) at Hochschule Fresenius is aimed at professionals who take on responsible management tasks in the healthcare sector or who want to qualify for leadership positions in hospitals, care facilities, pharmaceutical companies, medical supply centres, or healthcare consulting. It is especially targeted at graduates with a first degree in healthcare, social sciences, or business, as well as specialists with relevant professional experience who wish to expand their management and leadership skills in healthcare.

What formal admission requirements apply?

To be admitted to the Master’s programme in Healthcare Management (M.A.), you need a first professional university degree (for example Bachelor, Diploma or Magister) with at least 180 credit points. Alternatively, there are admission options with subject-specific vocational training and relevant professional experience as well as through taking an aptitude test. Hochschule Fresenius does not apply a Numerus Clausus (NC), so admission is also possible without a fixed grade point average. In summary, the following variants apply:

• Completed first degree (at least 180 ECTS) in healthcare, social work, business or related fields.
• Vocational training in a thematically appropriate field, at least 2 years of professional experience and a passed aptitude test (for example in the form of a written assignment and a letter of motivation).
• Experts with advanced training or a master craftsman’s certificate and several years of professional experience in the healthcare sector may also be admitted.
• Proof of university entrance qualification for applicants without a completed degree, supported by evidence of professional suitability and an admission interview.

In cases of differing foundations or missing credit points, further individual evidence or supplementary achievements may be required. Detailed regulations are specified in the admission procedure of Hochschule Fresenius.

You should have an interest in management tasks in healthcare and a willingness to work independently on academic tasks. For distance learning, self-organisation, discipline and a high degree of self-motivation are necessary. Knowledge in using digital tools, analytical thinking skills and the ability to work in a team support study success. Initial practical experience in the healthcare sector or in business management areas is advantageous but not always mandatory. Good communication skills, a sense of responsibility and an interest in current developments in the healthcare market are expected.

In the Master's degree programme in Management in Healthcare at Hochschule Fresenius, you systematically engage with a variety of management topics while taking into account current developments in the healthcare sector. The core compulsory modules include Human Resource Management and Personnel Development, Health Economics, Digitalisation in Healthcare, Academic Research, Value-Based Corporate Management, Project Management, Stakeholder Management, and Quality Management in Healthcare. In addition, you acquire skills in crisis communication, personnel selection, empirical research, and modern controlling.

The programme fosters your ability to analyse and shape complex challenges at the interface between economics and patient welfare. You learn how Managed Care and Care Management can be implemented in modern healthcare institutions and engage with research methods as well as empirical research projects. Through elective compulsory modules such as legal framework conditions in hospital management, nursing and rehabilitation management, hospital financing and controlling, as well as e-Health and telemedicine, you can set your own focuses.
