The Master's degree programme in Media and Communication Management via distance learning is aimed at professionals who want to take on leadership roles in media companies, corporate communications, marketing or related fields in the digital age. The programme targets graduates of economics, communications or media-related courses as well as career changers with relevant professional experience who want to expand their careers with strategic, media- and communication-specific management knowledge. The course is particularly suitable if you already have initial practical experience in the media sector, marketing, PR or digital communication and want to specifically deepen your knowledge in the context of companies, publishing houses, agencies or NGO communications.

How do you meet the formal admission criteria?

The following requirements apply for admission to the Master's in Media and Communication Management at Hochschule Fresenius:

  • Completed first degree (e.g. Bachelor, Diplom, Magister) with at least 180 Credit Points (CP) at a recognised university. Ideally, the field of study should have a reference to economics, media, communication or related areas.
  • Alternatively, access is also possible with another first degree if a sufficient link to the content can be demonstrated.
  • Professionally qualified applicants without a first degree: With a completed, at least two-year vocational training and at least two years of relevant professional experience in the subject-related field as well as a passed aptitude test and letter of motivation, you can also be admitted to the programme.
  • There are no NC restrictions (Numerus Clausus) and no mandatory school-leaving certificate (Abitur).
  • In individual cases, proof of specific Credit Points in economics- or communication-related modules, an admission interview or proof of English (e.g. B2 level) may be required.

For working applicants without a university degree, participation in an aptitude test and an individual advisory interview at the university is mandatory. Practical experience in the media or communication environment is assessed on an individual basis.

You should have openness to digital developments and an interest in interdisciplinary work. Important are analytical thinking skills, creativity as well as the willingness to engage with current trends in media, digitalisation and communication. Independent time management, the ability to work in a team and strong communication skills – also in virtual contexts – will make distance learning easier for you. The Master's degree in Media and Communication Management at Hochschule Fresenius focuses on strategies of modern corporate communication. You engage intensively with digital transformation, corporate communication and project management. Mandatory modules include, among others, personnel management and personnel development, crisis communication with internal and external stakeholders, empirical research as well as (virtual) working and leadership in an international context. The course also covers social media in internal and external communication, dealing with the press, international and intercultural management, national and international media law, as well as text creation for mobile devices and short message services.

In elective modules, you deepen your knowledge in specific areas, for example in campaign conception, virtualization of media and communication environments, social listening or changing media planning. In the further course you choose three topics from four elective areas for specialisation, whereby one module may also come from other Master's programmes at the university. The programme is complemented by an empirical research project and the final Master's thesis.
