📖 Course contents The M.A. Medical Education programme enables graduates, upon successful completion, to: critically engage with professional-political and educational (pedagogical) theories based on sound theoretical knowledge and establish their relevance to teaching activities, develop teamwork skills and empathy towards others in the role of teacher, evaluate the effectiveness of their own professional actions, and adapt or develop new strategies, recognise societal developments, participate in scientific research through knowledge of various research methods, and independently deepen their subject-specific as well as pedagogical-didactic knowledge.

Admission requirements

The formal admission requirement for the M.A. Medical Education programme at the HSD is, according to §9 paragraph 5, HZG Bb, proof of a first professional qualifying degree upon which the M.A. Medical Education master’s programme builds, e.g. a Bachelor's degree in Medical Education, Nursing Education or comparable fields.

The master’s programme can be completed with Bachelor's degrees in the educational field as well as with a Bachelor's degree in healthcare, whereby the modules differ partially in the first two semesters (see study plan).

Selection procedure

The selection procedure for the M.A. Medical Education master’s programme consists of two stages:

  • Application: compliance with the formal admission requirements
  • Interview: presentation of your person and your career path, presentation of the Bachelor's thesis, explanation of your motivation for the master’s programme, discussion and planning of the individual module composition in the master’s programme

The admission procedure is regulated in the study and examination regulations of the degree programme. The programme director decides on admission according to established criteria.

The Master's degree programme in Medical Education prepares students for the role of teacher, practical instructor, mentor, tutor and/or headmaster at a health professional school or university.

The programme also qualifies students for teaching, assessor and/or consultancy roles within healthcare, as well as positions in personnel and organisational development at healthcare companies, associations, health insurance funds, health and social institutions, among others.
