Medical-technical progress as well as demographic change also make the demand for qualified specialists in the healthcare market increasingly necessary. Against this background, the Master’s degree programme in Health Economics, Master of Science was introduced, which includes the study focuses on healthcare economics and medical treatment. The development of the healthcare economy is determined not only by open financing issues but also significantly by the availability of qualified specialists. The development of the skills shortage in outpatient and inpatient care will increase significantly for both doctors and non-medical healthcare professionals between 2020 and 2030.

As part of the module “Outpatient Patient Care”, both the various outpatient care options and their billing are discussed. Inpatient process flows in intensive care and anaesthesia medicine, operative medical care, and internal medicine / geriatrics are also part of the programme. The aim of these lectures is to become familiar with numerous processes of the respective disciplines and to be able to classify them from a health economics perspective. Among other things, fundamentals about the required structures and equipment are taught, as well as a detailed study of the basic treatment processes within the different areas. Students acquire sound knowledge in the competence field of drug management in patient care.
