Requirements and Target Group

The distance learning course in Tourism and Event Management is aimed at individuals who aspire to a career in the national or international tourism and event industry. It targets both school graduates with a general university entrance qualification as well as professionals from related fields such as hospitality, trade fairs, event management, or marketing who wish to advance their academic qualifications. The programme is also suitable for career changers from other commercial or service-oriented professions who have an interest in sustainable development, organisational processes, and intercultural cooperation in the tourism and event sector.

What requirements must you meet for the distance learning course?

Formal admission requirements:

  • General university entrance qualification (Abitur) or advanced technical college entrance qualification: direct access to studies is possible in all federal states or in the respective subject area.
  • Subject-specific university entrance qualification: access to studies in the designated field of the qualification.
  • Without Abitur: At least 2 years of completed vocational training as well as at least 2 years of full-time employment in a related professional field. Additionally, in this case, a subject-specific university entrance examination must be taken.
  • Advanced vocational training (e.g. master craftsman, technician, specialist, business administrator) with at least 400 hours: completion of such training also qualifies for admission to the studies, usually supplemented by a subject-specific university entrance examination.
  • Intermediate school leaving certificate plus at least 3 years of completed vocational training with a grade of 2.5 or better; if the grade is lower, a subject-specific university entrance examination is additionally required.

For borderline cases, an individual assessment will be conducted, in which certain minimum achievements (ECTS) must be demonstrated in the first year of study.

Communication skills are important, as direct interaction with customers, service providers, and teams is part of everyday professional life. The programme is organised as a fully distance learning course and is designed to fit optimally into your daily life. You can start any 1st of the month. The standard duration of study is six semesters (equivalent to 36 months), but flexible arrangements of up to 12 semesters are possible, depending on the chosen fee model.

  • All learning content is available digitally via the e-learning platform, including online scripts, videos, and studymags.
  • Many exams can be taken online and flexibly 24/7; a few exams may require attendance at physical locations.

For the study model with a standard study period of six semesters (36 months), the monthly fee is 375 euros, amounting to a total of 13,500 euros. Depending on your choice, you can stretch the fee model individually up to 72 months (then monthly from 235 euros).

  • The price includes all digital learning materials, exam fees, access to the online library, individual support, and masterclasses.
  • With discount codes, you receive reduced tuition fees. The current terms are provided by the university’s study advisory service.
  • Various financing options are available, including BAföG (subject to personal eligibility), KfW student loans, education loans, scholarships such as the Deutschlandstipendium, as well as employer support.
