Who is the Biosciences degree programme suitable for?

The Bachelor's degree programme Biosciences (B.Sc.) is aimed at school leavers with a university entrance qualification as well as professionally qualified individuals who have a strong interest in natural sciences and their application in medical, pharmaceutical or forensic settings. The degree is suitable for anyone seeking a practical introduction to biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular medicine or analytical methods and who later wish to pursue responsible roles in laboratories, biomedical research, the pharmaceutical industry or the field of environmental protection. The programme also offers an academic perspective for career changers with professional qualifications, provided that the necessary admission requirements are met.

Admission: What formal requirements must you meet?

To be admitted to the Bachelor's degree in Biosciences at Hochschule Fresenius, you need one of the following qualifications:

  • General university entrance qualification (Abitur) or subject-specific university entrance qualification
  • Advanced technical college entrance qualification, e.g. after completing upper secondary school or a technical secondary school
  • Professional qualification according to § 54 of the Hessian Higher Education Act, e.g. through a passed master craftsman’s examination, a further professional qualification (business administrator, technician, business graduate IHK/HWK) or a comparable qualification
  • Special admission opportunities for applicants with completed vocational training and at least three years of relevant professional experience after successfully passing an aptitude test

A numerus clausus (NC) is not required. Study places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are generally possible all year round, with the start of studies in the winter semester.

You should enjoy scientific questions and have an interest in biological, chemical and medical topics. Mathematical-analytical skills and accuracy are just as important as practical ability in laboratory work. Independent working, willingness to learn and an interest in scientific methods support your academic success. Since the degree is practice-oriented and includes lab practicals as well as a work placement semester, teamwork skills and a sense of responsibility in handling laboratory equipment and samples are essential prerequisites. Communication skills, English proficiency for specialist literature and organisational talent when planning projects are helpful.
