Admission requirements
The admission requirements for the Bachelor's degree programme in Graphic Design & Visual Communication are possession of the German Abitur, Fachabitur, or an equivalent qualification. Foreign qualifications must meet the equivalence criteria of the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB).
There are four ways to gain admission eligibility: direct access for all subjects, direct subject-specific access, subject-specific access to the Studienkolleg or the assessment test, and obtaining additional educational certificates if the qualification does not correspond to the German university entrance qualification.
Option 1: Study Period - Enrollment at a university near you or outside Germany with successful completion of one academic year.
Option 2: Studienkolleg and Assessment test - Enrolment in a university preparatory course serving as a bridge between current qualifications and required qualifications.
As the instruction is solely in English, you need a current proof of your language skills. A language certificate for German skills is not required.
If these correspond at least to CEFR level B2 or higher, one of the following proofs can be accepted for your application:
TOEFL ITP: 543
TOEFL IBT: 74
IELTS (Academic): 6.0 overall
Cambridge FCE: B2
PTE Academic: 59
BI Internal Language Test/ BAU Global 'English Language Proficiency Exam': 60/100
IB Diploma: English A or B at both HL and SL levels
German Abitur

The Graphic Design & Visual Communication course at the Berlin International University of Applied Sciences prepares students for a career in a creative and international environment. The curriculum is taught through practical projects, covering various phases of the design process from conceptualization to technical implementation. Topics such as design skills, foundational design principles, photography, and Interaction Design are included in the course.
In the first year of study, students acquire fundamental design skills, basic design principles, and an introduction to areas such as photography and New Media.
The second year focuses on fostering intercultural competencies and developing complex design systems.
In the third year, an interdisciplinary design project is carried out in collaboration with other courses, in addition to a mandatory internship and the completion of the bachelor's thesis.

Throughout the project, the emphasis is always on human and ecological aspects, aiming to develop practical solutions for current challenges.
