Demographic change as well as ongoing developments in the German healthcare system demand new care models, structures and professions that can undertake versatile and responsible tasks in patient care. In 2017, the German Medical Association voted at the 120th German Medical Assembly in favour of introducing a nationally regulated new professional profile called Physician Assistant. This term, borrowed from international usage, refers to a university-qualified health profession (bachelor’s level) that works under supervision and in close cooperation with doctors to support and relieve them.

The bachelor’s degree course Physician Assistant at MSB is aimed at prospective students who already have completed vocational training in the health and nursing sector and wish to open up new professional perspectives through further qualification. This especially targets medical assistants, nursing professionals, paramedics and surgical assistants, but also professionals from therapy or medical-technical health professions.
