- an alternative to medical studies, enables the takeover of delegated medical tasks in the inpatient or outpatient sector
- study in many possible cities, you can also change the place of study during the course of the programme
- 240 credit points, so that you can subsequently complete a shortened master's degree
Admission Requirements
In order to enrol in a university programme at the Carl Remigius Medical School, applicants must demonstrate the necessary qualifications for the programme of study (higher education entrance qualification). This is demonstrated by:
- the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), which entitles you to study at all universities and in all federal states,
- or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, which entitles you to study in the corresponding subject area and in the federal states specified in the certificate,
- or the vocational baccalaureate diploma, which entitles you to study at a university of applied sciences or in a tiered degree programme at a university in the federal states specified in the certificate.
Alternatively, you can also be admitted without Abitur or vocational baccalaureate diploma. Provided the following for admission without Abitur:
- You have passed a master's examination.
- Or you have a qualification in accordance with the Regulation on the Access of Vocational Qualifications to Universities in the State of Hesse, i.e., either a qualification from a vocational advanced training course of at least 400 hours, a qualification from a technical school or a vocational or administrative academy, or a passed final examination in a state-recognized training occupation followed by at least three years of professional experience and passing a separate university entrance examination.
- For foreign qualifications, equivalence must be demonstrated for admission.
In addition, you must provide evidence of 120 hours of nursing internship in the field of inpatient care for admission. This nursing internship can be made up upon written request during the first two semesters.
Study Contents and Specializations
The generalized education with comprehensive medical expertise and practical skills enables you to work in various medical disciplines. Fields of application can be found in hospitals and outpatient clinics, day clinics, medical practices, medical care centres, as well as other outpatient facilities. As a Physician Assistant, you are exclusively assigned to the medical service, with the physician retaining ultimate responsibility.
The focus of the study programme is based on that of the medical degree. Contents from preclinical studies, clinical studies, and clerkship are taken into account. Key subjects include Anatomy, Pathophysiology, diagnostic procedures, as well as subject-specific and case-specific actions in clinical medicine.
The study plan includes the following modules:
- 1st Semester: Introduction to Studies, Basic Natural Sciences, Medical History Taking and Medical Psychology/Sociology, Anatomy I
- 2nd Semester: Anatomy II and Diagnostic Procedures, Medical Basics/Physiology and Pathophysiology, Legal Basics & Ethics
- 3rd Semester: Medical Technical Basics & Diagnostic Procedures, Pharmacological Basics & Toxicology, General and Special Pathology in Conservative Medicine – Internship I (6 weeks)
- 4th Semester: Hygiene, General and Special Pathology in Surgical Medicine – Internship II (6 weeks)
- 5th Semester: Communication, Conversation Skills & Social Skills, Medical Documentation and Information Management, Emergency Management and Rescue Services – Internship III (2 weeks)
- 6th Semester: Project Work in Conservative Medicine – Internship IV (12 weeks), Project Work in Surgical Medicine – Internship IV (12 weeks)
- 7th Semester: Case- and Subject-Specific Medicine – Internship V (16 weeks)
- 8th Semester: Quality Management, Occupational and Social Medicine, Prevention and Rehabilitation, Bachelor Examination
