Admission Requirements
In order to begin a university degree at the Carl Remigius Medical School, applicants must provide proof of the required qualification for the course (higher education entrance qualification). This can be demonstrated by:
- general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), which entitles you to study at all universities and in all federal states,
- or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, which entitles you to study in the relevant subject area and in the federal states listed on the certificate,
- or the university of applied sciences entrance qualification, which entitles you to study at a university of applied sciences or in a phased degree programme at a university in the federal states listed on the certificate.
In addition, you must provide proof of a completed vocational training with a corresponding licence to practise in a regulated healthcare profession with a grade of 3.0 or better, and pass the equivalence examination. With the help of the equivalence examination, we verify in an individual recognition procedure the level equivalence of your vocational training with the corresponding modules in the degree programme.
Regulated healthcare professions are, by the way, professions such as health and nursing staff, elderly care nurses, occupational therapists or paramedics. A complete list of regulated healthcare professions can be found here.
Course Content and Specialisations
The generalised training with comprehensive medical expertise and practical skills enables you to work in various medical specialties. Areas of deployment include, for example, hospitals and polyclinics, day clinics, medical centres, medical care centres as well as other outpatient facilities. As a Physician Assistant, you are exclusively assigned to the medical service; the final responsibility of the physician remains unaffected.
The course focuses align with those of medical studies. Contents from pre-clinical, clinical phases and clerkships are taken into account. Central subjects include anatomy, pathophysiology, examination procedures as well as subject- and case-specific actions in clinical medicine.
Since the first 4 semesters are recognised based on your vocational training, you start directly in the 5th semester. The following modules are planned in the study plan:
- 5th semester: Scientific basics and academic work, anatomy and pathology, medical history taking and physical examination (minimum 50% attendance requirement), internship I (patient admission, medical history & examination)
- 6th semester: Physiology and pathophysiology, general and special pathology in conservative medicine, hygiene and microbiology, internship II (conservative medicine)
- 7th semester: General and special pathology in operative medicine, clinical medicine, surgical training, laboratory and functional diagnostics, internship III (operative medicine)
- 8th semester: Emergency and intensive care medicine, anaesthesia, pharmacology and toxicology, internship IV (emergency & anaesthesia)
- 9th semester: Communication and social skills, legal and ethical aspects of professional practice, medical documentation, quality, information and project management, internship V (case- and subject-specific medicine)
- 10th semester: Public health, medical technology and medical devices, bachelor examination
