To be admitted to the Bachelor’s degree programme in Nursing, you need:
- Completed, state-recognised vocational training of at least three years in a nursing profession (general nursing, paediatric nursing, geriatric nursing, specialised nurse, degree from 2003 onwards required; older degrees are evaluated individually)
- General higher education entrance qualification, subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or an approved professional qualification according to the Bremen Higher Education Act; admission without a university entrance qualification is possible through appropriate vocational training and further education with an aptitude test
- Sufficient German language skills, if your school leaving certificate was not obtained at a German-speaking institution
Your three-year nursing training will be credited with 90 credit points towards the degree. For applicants with a state-recognised nursing qualification obtained after 2003, admission is usually granted directly; for older or foreign qualifications, an individual assessment is carried out.
You should have a high degree of personal responsibility and be willing to apply scientific methods in the nursing context. Analytical thinking, communication skills and the willingness to critically examine nursing procedures based on evidence are important. Experience in dealing with patients and relatives as well as interest in counselling, training and quality development in nursing will support your study success. Good time management and self-organisation skills are required for distance learning.
Which Skills and Subject Contents Does the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Convey?
In the Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at APOLLON University, you deepen your existing practical skills with nursing science, psychological and management-related content. Key topics of the programme include:

How Is the Course Structure Organised in the Distance Learning Nursing Programme?
The distance learning programme is based on a blended learning concept focusing on asynchronous, independent study. The degree is divided into two phases:
- First phase: 90 ECTS credits are recognised for your three-year nursing training – you do not need to complete this part of the curriculum again.
- Second phase: You study the remaining 90 ECTS credits in compulsory and elective modules (a total of 12 modules including the bachelor thesis).
The total scope amounts to 180 ECTS (5,400 hours of workload), of which 2,700 hours are accounted for by independent study. The standard period of study is 18 or 24 months when organised alongside employment. A free extension of up to 50% of the standard period of study is possible.
The following elements structure your studies:
- Digital study booklets (optionally printed), supplemented by web-based trainings and learning videos
- Virtual interactive teaching (approx. 385 hours) and accompanying seminars, which can be attended either as face-to-face or online sessions
- Self-study and guided phases via the online campus as well as flexible exam formats (e.g. open-book exams or examination centres)
- Practice-oriented projects, case studies, term papers and the bachelor thesis as the final paper
The concept provides a high degree of flexibility: enrolment is possible at any time, breaks are allowed, and a free trial phase (4 weeks) is also offered.

With successful completion, you gain academic further qualification at DQR level 6 (Bachelor of Science) and are well prepared for demanding tasks in the field of nursing. Typical areas of application include:
- Patient-centred nursing with an extension to evidence-based practice and quality management
- Practical instruction and training of nursing professionals as well as induction of new employees
- Nursing advice according to § 7a SGB XI or case management in various care contexts
- Leadership and management roles (e.g. deputy or head nurse, team or department management)

The programme takes place entirely online at APOLLON University of Health Economics in Bremen and is therefore location-independent. You use the online campus for study materials, seminars, communication and exam registration. Seminars and exams are offered digitally; upon request, exams can also be taken at various examination centres in Germany and abroad.
- Personal contact with lecturers and fellow students takes place via online seminars, forums and chats
- Introductory events and seminars can optionally be attended online or occasionally in person
- All study materials are available digitally in PDF, e-book or audio format

How High Are the Tuition Fees and What Funding Options Are Available?
The tuition fees for the Bachelor’s degree programme in Nursing amount to a total of €16,740. The monthly rate is €367 for a study period of 48 months. Reduced fees are possible if you opt for the compressed variant with 18 or 24 months – due to the recognition of your nursing training, the duration of studies and thus the fees are correspondingly shortened.
- Free extension of up to 50% of the standard period of study (e.g. an additional 9 or 12 months)
- Trial phase: You can test the programme free of charge for 4 weeks
