The Akkon University of Human Sciences is a state-recognized, private university located in Berlin, founded in 2009. The university is operated by Akkon University non-profit GmbH, an initiative of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. It offers a wide range of study programs for working professionals as well as full-time students, following an applied, interdisciplinary educational approach in the fields of Nursing and Medicine, Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection, as well as Education and Social Sciences. In the winter semester of 2024/2025, the university had 1,471 students enrolled.
The university offers various bachelor's and master's programs. In the field of Nursing and Medicine, these include programs such as "Nursing Management" (B.A.), "Advanced Clinical Nursing" (B.Sc.), and "Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP)" (M.Sc.). The latter focuses on the clinical further education of nursing professionals. The program "Advanced Clinical Nursing" is conducted in cooperation with Charité.
In the field of Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection, programs such as "International Emergency and Disaster Relief" (B.A.), "Management in Civil Protection" (B.Sc.), "Leadership in Civil Protection and Crisis Management" (M.Sc.), "Global Health" (M.Sc.), and "Crisis, Conflict, and Disaster Communication" (M.A.) are offered.
In the field of Education and Social Sciences, students can study programs like "Medical and Emergency Education" (B.A.), "Education in Healthcare" (B.A.), "Social Work" (B.A., also part-time), as well as "Health, Nursing, and Medical Education" (M.A.).
The campus is located at Colditzstraße 34–36 in the Tempelhof district of Berlin. The university has modern learning spaces with smartboards and hybrid teaching technology, as well as a library, student services, a kitchen, lounge areas, and administrative areas. Access to public transportation is provided by bus and underground train.
Akkon University engages in practice-oriented research with focuses on nursing, health and social sciences, civil protection, and disaster relief. It operates research institutes such as the Institute for Research in International Assistance (IRIA) and the Institute for Applied Innovation in Healthcare (ITAC).
