Admission Requirements

With your B.A. in Product Design, you creatively design capital goods, consumer goods, or also communication goods such as packaging and advertising media.

In order to begin a university degree at the AMD Academy of Fashion and Design, applicants must provide proof of the required qualification for their studies (university entrance qualification). This is demonstrated by:

  • the general university entrance qualification (Abitur), which entitles you to study at all universities and in all federal states,
  • or the subject-specific university entrance qualification, which entitles you to study in the relevant field and in the federal states indicated on the certificate,
  • or the university of applied sciences entrance qualification, which entitles you to study at a university of applied sciences or in a structured degree programme at a university in the federal states indicated on the certificate.

Alternately, you can also be admitted without Abitur or university of applied sciences entrance qualification. The following applies for studying without Abitur:

  • You have passed a master craftsman’s examination.
  • Or you have a qualification according to the regulation on access for professionally qualified persons to universities in the state of Hesse, i.e., either a completion of a professional advanced training course of at least 400 hours, graduation from a technical school or a vocational or administrative academy, or a passed final examination in a state-recognised training occupation with subsequent at least three years of professional experience and passing a separate university entrance examination.
  • For foreign qualifications, equivalence must be proven for admission.

Course Content and Specialisations

This AMD degree programme teaches you how to creatively design investment goods, consumer goods, or communication goods such as packaging and advertising materials. The aim of the programme: to develop a sense for societal needs and to find innovative solutions. You study in Hamburg at the Campus for Fashion & Design of AMD.

The study plan includes the following modules:

  • 1st–3rd semester: Introduction, Manual and digital drawing techniques, Visual Communication I, II, III, Sustainable Product Development I, II, III, Cultural History of Design I, II, III, Design with Digital Media I, Sustainable Design, Elective module
  • 4th semester: Design with Digital Media II, Theory of Design I, Elective module
  • 5th semester: Internship
  • 6th semester: Theory of Design II, Marketing, Research and Communication, Sustainable Product Design
  • 7th semester: Bachelor phase, Exhibition documentation

During your studies, you will also specialise in exciting elective modules, for example Digital Media, Object Design, Design in Context, or Start Up.
