Who is the Bachelor’s Degree in Music Production at SRH University Designed For?

The Bachelor’s degree in Music Production (B.A.) at SRH University is aimed at music-enthusiastic talents who wish to independently conceive, record and produce songs and music projects. This programme is intended for future composers, musicians, producers as well as aspiring sound engineers who want to engage practically and creatively with modern production processes, studio work and music management. Those who already have basic musical skills on an instrument or as a singer and want to gain practical experience in realising musical ideas will find optimal development opportunities here. The course is suitable for you if you want to work independently and are interested in the artistic and technical aspects of music creation.

Admission Requirements for the Degree Programme Music Production (B.A.)

• University Entrance Qualification: General university entrance qualification (Abitur), university of applied sciences entrance qualification or an equivalent recognised educational qualification.
• Professional Access: Alternatively, admission is possible with a relevant professional qualification and at least three years of professional experience. In this case, passing an aptitude test is required.
• Musical Aptitude: Proof of musical skills on at least one instrument or singing. Permissible main subjects include singing, piano, guitar, electric bass, double bass, drums, violin, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, flute. The chosen main instrument is presented as part of a practical entrance examination. (Not accepted: “Computer” as an instrument for this degree programme.)
• Submission of two songs (MP3, each 1–4 minutes): Own compositions or interpretations reflecting one’s own musical profile.
• Additional documents: CV with current passport photo, copy of ID (or passport/national identity card for international applicants).
• Application process: After the online application, documents are reviewed. If pre-selected positively, an invitation to a practical entrance exam and an interview follows, focusing on expertise, creativity and motivation.
• For applicants without formal university entrance qualification, the regulations of the federal states of Berlin/Bavaria for professionally qualified persons apply, possibly with an additional aptitude test.

The programme is NC-free and offered in Germany (Berlin, from 2025 also in Munich). The language of instruction is German (there is a variant in English).

In the Bachelor's degree programme in Music Production at SRH University, you systematically build up specialist knowledge in the field of music production. The content combines artistic training in composition and instrumental performance with production technical know-how and organisational skills.

• Recording Technology & Acoustics: You engage with modern recording methods, sound studio technology, and fundamentals of acoustics.
• Music Theory & Harmony: You deepen your knowledge in music theory, music education, counterpoint, and harmony – both practically and theoretically.
• Digital Music Production: The use of Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), sequencers, and production software is firmly embedded in the curriculum.
• Songwriting & Arrangement: You learn to write your own songs, song design, arranging, and orchestrating – including practical exercises.
• Practical Projects: Each semester you apply what you have learned in practice, producing, for example, for concerts or media projects.
• Music Law & Production Management: Legal basics, project organisation, and economic aspects of music production are taught.
• Sound Design & Media Music: Topics such as sound design, music for film and games, sample libraries, and sound synthesis are introduced from the 6th semester onwards.
• Main Artistic Subject: Your main instrument or singing as well as ensemble lessons remain central components up to the sixth semester.

How is the study programme structured?

The degree programme comprises seven semesters (210 ECTS) in a full-time model. Each semester has a clear thematic focus and interlinks theory, practice, and artistic development.

• 1st Semester: Basics in theory and practice: recording technology, music education, music theory, artistic minor subjects (e.g. piano, choir), first practical project.
• 2nd Semester: Discovering and creating: harmony, digital technology, ensemble work, musicology/sound studies, elective module.
• 3rd Semester: Songwriting and recording: writing and producing your own songs, studio technology, media law, deepening artistic focus.
• 4th Semester: Arranging and producing: arrangement, mixing & mastering, analysis of well-known productions, additional practical project and elective module.
• 5th Semester: Practical phase: internship, study abroad, or a project-oriented semester for applied specialisation.
• 6th Semester: Media and stage music: sound design, orchestration, music for various media, project organisation, preparation for the final concert.
• 7th Semester: Individualisation & thesis: film and game music, portfolio work, production management, final thesis (B.A. thesis, optionally with an artistic component).

Weekly workshops, practice-oriented projects, and live panels with industry professionals are central components of the curriculum. Access to studios and equipment is guaranteed from the first semester.

Studying at SRH University is funded by tuition fees. The fees are:

• Berlin or Munich (EU/EEA including Switzerland, Ukraine, Western Balkans): €790 per month (fixed price for the entire duration of study)
• Non-EU/EEA: €4,500 per semester
• One-time registration fee: €750 (EU/EEA) or €1,000 (Non-EU/EEA)
