Details
Communicative competence and the understanding of cultural contexts are considered key qualifications of the 21st century. The unique Bachelor's degree programme "Communication, Culture & Management" at Zeppelin University responds to this with a combination of cultural, media and communication science content with management tools. The degree programme in Communication and Cultural Management is a generalist humanities and social sciences degree that allows students to set their own focus in the later semesters. The programme intelligently combines elements of media studies, communication studies, sociology, philosophy, ethnology, aesthetics and art studies, and journalism. In particular, for broadly interested school leavers who, for example, enjoyed subjects such as philosophy, ethics, art or social sciences in upper secondary school, the Bachelor's in CCM is a good foundational course to discover their own passions and specialisation preferences during their studies. These elements are complemented by content from economics, political and administrative sciences. Through this combination of in-depth cultural, media and communication science content with theoretically founded management knowledge, the Bachelor's degree programme "Communication & Cultural Management (CCM)" imparts an innovative, career- and profession-oriented competency profile. The degree programme "Communication & Cultural Management" holds a top position in the current university ranking of the “Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung” (CHE).

Structure of studies
ZU is one of the first German universities to have switched to a four-year Bachelor's programme. This gives students more own time for individuality, more time for excellence in experimentation and more time for specialisation and reflection. The first two semesters of the Bachelor's degree programme are called the “Zeppelin Year”. In this year, the focus is on project work, theoretical basics in economics, media, culture, politics and law as well as learning scientific methods. Thus, dry theories and methods become “wetter”, i.e. more comprehensible in concrete practical or research projects – whether concerning urbanity, migration, the cultural economy, market crises or political networks. Students of all four Bachelor's degree programmes at ZU (i.e. alongside “Economics” also “Cultural & Communication Studies”, “management-oriented Politics & Administrative Sciences”, as well as “Sociology, Politics & Economics”) learn and study the same content during this time. If a student – like 45 percent of all German students – has made a wrong choice in their studies, it is thus possible to switch to another course at ZU after the first year without loss of time or examinations. The Zeppelin Year is followed by the in-depth “Major Phase” (3rd – 5th semester), in which, in addition to a few compulsory modules, every student can put together their very own study plan with specialisations. We believe good students will want to do something on their own by the sixth semester – for that, ZU offers the “Humboldt Year”: self-chosen research orientation in dialogue with a chair or one of the eight ZU research associations. The studies conclude with the “Bachelor Phase” and the writing of the Bachelor's thesis in the 8th semester. During the last twelve weeks, students work on their own research topic and exchange ideas in colloquia with fellow students and their supervising professor. For all those who are so curious that they would like to study two courses at once, ZU offers the possibility to do a so-called Minor. Specifically: For example, one studies economics as a major and simultaneously completes a minor with at least three modules in communication and cultural studies.
Special study formats
StudentStudies
Have you ever wondered why all study content is made by professors and not also by students? And why students have to memorise answers to questions they have never been asked? We have, too, and therefore we have the following thesis: Internal learning works much better with self-posed questions and self-developed answers. That is why we invented StudentStudies. The principle: At least ten students define a topic, design a seminar, invite lecturers, organise the literature – and study their own seminar in the following semester.
GlobalStudies
International experience is one of the indispensable competences. For this reason, ZU has launched the programme “Global Studies” – a study programme between continents and cultures. GlobalStudies are based on a simple formula: 1 student + 3 internships + 3 continents + 1 foreign university. The programme thus enables a three-continent work and learning experience. Even without participating in the GlobalStudies programme, all ZU students complete a foreign internship and optionally a semester abroad at one of about 80 partner universities.
TandemCoaching
Besides academic qualification, your personal development is at the forefront at Zeppelin University: Every student chooses a ScienceCoach from the ZU teaching staff during the first semester as well as, later on, a PracticeCoach from institutions in business, culture or politics. These coaches accompany you throughout your entire studies to address questions regarding academic focus, personal development and career perspectives. TandemCoaching lasts throughout your entire study period at Zeppelin University – and perhaps for a lifetime.
TalentCenter
Acting as an interface between practitioners and students, the TalentCenter functions as a relationship engine. For students, the TalentCenter offers advisory services, organises training and workshops for entering the job market and provides tips for applying. At the same time, it is the contact point for companies, organisations and institutions. More than 500 companies and organisations are members of the TalentCenter and regularly offer internships or projects and look for graduates for open positions.
Career prospects
As competent generalists, graduates of the degree programme have attractive entry and career opportunities in various fields and industries of the economy. Furthermore, Zeppelin University has agreed special entry options with selected auditing firms, management consultancies and financial services for ZU Bachelor graduates. The distinctive profile of the degree programme further enables and encourages a qualified start into an entrepreneurial career in medium-sized enterprises and for business start-ups.
Admission requirements
The application process at ZU consists of three steps: It begins with an internet-based kick-off, followed by a comprehensive written application. Two professors then decide whether the applicant is invited to the third stage: the selection day “Pioneers Wanted!”. During this selection day, applicants have interviews with professors, students and friends of the university. They complete a real case study in a group with other applicants as well as various tests.
Start of studies
ZU offers the start of studies in September (fall semester) and also in January (spring semester) for Bachelor students. The Bachelor degree programmes comprise eight semesters, the Master’s degree programmes four semesters. FinancingMoney shall not be an obstacle, that is the motto of Zeppelin University. Therefore, together with Sparkasse Bodensee, it offers a loan system and merit scholarships.
- Fees: The fees for the Bachelor in CME amount to 4,700 euros per semester. Every student can fully finance the tuition fees through the Sparkasse Bodensee Student Loan programme. More than 60 percent of students use this model.
- Loan: Sparkasse finances tuition fees for students at a significantly reduced interest rate. At the same time, an individual repayment plan is agreed upon for up to ten years, which begins one year after starting professional life. Further degrees or doctorates are thus taken into account. Sparkasse relies on the selection process of Zeppelin University and waives the usual credit check.
- ZU Education Fund: The ZU Education Fund is an innovative model of study financing where you pay no tuition fees during your studies. Renowned investors cover the tuition fees for you. After finishing your studies, you repay the tuition fees depending on your income.
- Bachelor scholarships: Zeppelin University annually awards full, partial and project scholarships to particularly outstanding applicants and students to reduce tuition fees and support individual projects and trips. The scholarships are endowed by partners and supporters of the university and are tied to studying at ZU.
