Admission requirements
The number of study places is limited to a maximum of 45 students per semester.
Admission is granted through a written application and a personal selection process.
The following is required for the written application:
- a university entrance qualification
- a 4-page letter of motivation
- a three-month internship or confirmation of an internship placement in a clinical facility or a counselling centre; the internship must not be older than two years
Application periods:
For the summer semester: 01.07. – 30.09.
For the winter semester: 15.12. – 28.02.

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology (formerly: Psychology with a focus on Psychotherapy) at the Private University of Witten/Herdecke in Witten is a practice-oriented on-site degree programme that is completed in 6 semesters.
The degree programme imparts broad foundational knowledge of psychological theories and places an emphasis on clinical psychology and diagnostics. A central topic is the holistic consideration of the human being with regard to perception, experience, and behaviour. Students have the opportunity to try out various methods of psychotherapy and to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Additionally, they are encouraged to participate actively in order to further develop their personality.
The degree programme is accredited according to the European Credit Transfer System and comprises a total of 180 ECTS credits. It is divided into 17 modules, all of which must be successfully completed. Upon completion of the degree, students receive the title “Bachelor of Science” (B. Sc.).
The focus is on practical knowledge transfer, value orientation, and the free personal development of students. The University of Witten/Herdecke offers small seminar groups and high levels of supervision to provide students with an optimal learning environment. The degree programme enables entry into qualified professional fields or further Master’s studies.
The degree programme is conducted in German and starts in both the summer and winter semesters. Admission requirements include the general university entrance qualification, a three-month internship, and an admission notification following the admission process for psychology degree programmes.
The accreditation by AHPGS is valid until September 2024 and confirms that the qualification objectives of the degree programme are appropriately aligned with the Bachelor's level. Graduates are well prepared for qualified professional activities or Master’s studies in the field of psychology and psychotherapy.
