Details
There is a high and continuously growing demand for professionals in the municipal networks of Early Support. In many areas, there is a lack of new or additional, well-qualified specialists who professionally bridge the gaps in the networking of different legal jurisdictions, act as guides in municipal care structures, and above all support children and (expectant) parents in a timely and needs-based manner.
The Bachelor's degree programme Early Support and Early Intervention trains professionals who act as specialists in child development during the first years of life and as experts in strengthening the caregivers in the child’s environment and family system.
The Bachelor’s degree programme is officially recognised by the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Science Berlin and has been successfully accredited by AHPGS.
MSB also offers you the opportunity of a double bachelor’s degree. After only three further semesters, you will obtain the additional Bachelor’s degree in Curative Education with official recognition in Berlin.
Early Support and Early Intervention provides holistic training
The previous training programmes in the area of early intervention focus on a differentiated expert knowledge base (paediatrics, psychology, speech therapy, curative education, social work, etc.). Within this spectrum, the respective professional groups primarily represent their specific perspectives. This separated view is no longer sufficient today. Rather, professionals from all these individual disciplines should bring knowledge and at the same time develop a holistic view of both the individual child and their living environment. The Bachelor’s degree programme consistently develops these cross-sectional competencies.
Early Support and Early Intervention provides family- and resource-oriented training
To implement the holistic approach effectively, the focus must be shifted away from the currently dominant orientation towards therapeutic services or curative education treatments: the entire family system and reference group must be included in the support provided. In addition to enabling work with the child, a central concern of the Bachelor’s degree programme Early Support and Early Intervention is therefore the imparting of skills to strengthen the caregivers in the child’s environment (family, but also e.g. day-care centres).
Early Support and Early Intervention provides self-reflective training
Theoretical core areas of early intervention such as pedagogy and psychology, medicine and therapy, social work and law are, of course, also taught in the Early Support and Early Intervention (B.A.) degree programme at MSB. The module sequence complies with all national requirements for training qualified professionals. A special feature of the course, however, is the continuous self-reflection of students and the optimisation of their social and personal skills. Because in their later professional lives, specialists in Early Support and Early Intervention will repeatedly be confronted with acute crisis situations in which they need a solid ethical and personal foundation in order to intervene effectively.
