Admission requirements
The Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) is a state-recognised private university of applied sciences. Therefore, students must meet at least the same formal admission requirements as those required for entry to a comparable course at a public university. A formal requirement for admission to the Bachelor’s degree at FHM is the general university entrance qualification or the university of applied sciences entrance qualification. Professionals with corresponding vocational qualifications can also commence studies. Possible entry routes to the course*:

- Master craftsman*
- State-certified technicians
- Master craftsman candidate with university of applied sciences entrance qualification
- Business administrator in the skilled trades
- Business administrator (IHK)
- Graduates of two-year technical college courses
- Specialist business managers and specialist purchasers
- State-certified business administrator
- Professional qualification (school leaving certificate + at least 2 years' vocational training** + subsequent minimum 3 years of subject-specific professional experience)
*Verification of university entrance qualification in accordance with the state law of NRW
**If vocational training is outside the subject area, an entrance examination is required

The Bachelor's degree programme in Media Communication & Journalism at the University of Applied Sciences for Medium-Sized Businesses (FHM) prepares students for a variety of communicative tasks in the media world. Students acquire comprehensive knowledge of the media and communications industry, ranging from theoretical fundamentals to practical skills in journalistic work. The programme places particular emphasis on personal development by fostering communication and teamwork skills. A practice-oriented education is ensured through intensive exchange with media and business companies.
The programme includes modules such as media theory, communication science, social media, cross-media communication as well as business administration. Practical training editorial teams in the fields of radio, TV and print offer students the opportunity to work under real conditions. The degree prepares students for future roles in various areas, such as news agencies, media editorial offices, PR agencies and more.
