Admission requirements
In order to enroll in the Bachelor of Laws programme at Bucerius Law School, you must provide proof of eligibility for higher education. The usual requirement is the German Abitur or an equivalent qualification that qualifies you to study at a German university.
In addition, successful participation in a selection process is required, which specifically examines personal aptitude, motivation, and subject-related interest.

The Bachelor of Laws at Bucerius Law School is a three-year, internationally recognized programme that combines legal expertise with a practical, modern teaching concept. The course is aimed at those interested in a legal education with an international focus, but who do not necessarily want to pursue one of the so-called full legal careers such as judge or lawyer. Graduates can work in a variety of professional contexts, including companies, authorities, consulting firms, associations, or the non-profit sector. The programme also provides access to international master's programmes and can serve as a stepping stone to further legal qualifications at home and abroad.
The programme includes compulsory lectures in central legal areas, elective courses for specialization, as well as accompanying offers such as general studies, small group seminars accompanying lectures, and internships to promote personal, social, and methodological skills. From the ninth trimester, a period abroad is firmly integrated into the curriculum to enhance the international profile. The final bachelor's thesis demonstrates the students' academic qualification.
Area A – Private Law: Basics of legal transactions, debt and liability, movables, real estate and security interests, international, companies, family, guardianship and inheritance, enforcement of rights, exercise in private law
Area B – Public Law: State and constitution, administration, European Union and community, exercise in public law
Area C – Criminal Law: Law and punishment (foundations of criminal law), criminal law for advanced students, exercise in criminal law
Area D – Supplementary Modules: Economics, elective courses (beginner level and advanced level/specialized curriculum)
Area E – Bachelor Thesis: Written bachelor thesis with examination, bachelor preparation seminar
Area F – Additional Modules: Internships, study abroad, general studies, small group seminars (Modules A1 to A3), small group seminars (Modules B1 and B2), small group seminars (Modules C1 and C2)
The programme is designed to prepare both beginners and students oriented towards further education for the demands of the modern job market. Credit points are awarded according to the European Credit Transfer System and consist of 200 points, of which 130 are graded achievements. Unlike many other universities, after successful completion, students can easily switch to a state examination programme, with all credits earned being recognised.
