Admission Requirements for B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering at WBH

The mechanical engineering programme at Wilhelm Büchner University is open to a wide range of applicants - both with and without a high school diploma. The basis for admission is the applicable regulations of the state of Hesse, as the university is located there.

Admission with University Entrance Qualification

You can be directly admitted if you have one of the following academic qualifications:

  • General university entrance qualification (A-levels)
  • Subject-specific university entrance qualification
  • Technical college entrance qualification
  • Equivalent university entrance qualification recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art

Admission without A-levels

Even without academic university entrance qualifications, you can study if you can demonstrate a qualified professional background.

The following options apply:

Qualified qualification (direct admission):

  • Master craftsman's certificate
  • Graduate certificate as a specialist or technician
  • Graduate certificate with a technical examination

These qualifications enable direct admission without further eligibility checks for all degree programmes.

Professional qualification (possibly with HZP):

  • At least three-year state-recognized vocational training with a final grade of 2.5 or better AND
  • Middle-level school leaving certificate (e.g. Realschule) AND
  • At least two years of full-time professional experience

Depending on the individual case, an additional university entrance qualification exam (HZP) may be required, especially if no qualified qualification is demonstrated. Admission is then initially as an auditor.

University Entrance Qualification Exam (HZP) in Hesse: The HZP is an examination-based access option for professionally qualified individuals without A-levels. Requirement:

  • Participation in two performance semesters at WBH
  • Successful completion of all exam-relevant modules
  • State-recognized training and relevant work experience

Passing the HZP grants a subject-specific university entrance qualification for Hesse and entitles you to continue studying in the chosen programme.
