Admission requirements

Admission to the Security Management degree programme is granted to those who meet one of the following requirements:

• General university entrance qualification (Allgemeine Hochschulreife)
• Advanced technical college entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife),
• Passed master craftsman’s examination
• Intermediate school leaving certificate (at least secondary school leaving certificate) and a qualified completion of a recognised vocational training course of at least 3 years, showing an average/overall or final grade of 2.5 or better (if these grades are not indicated, the arithmetic mean of the individual subject grades shall apply)
• Completion of a professional advancement training course of at least 400 teaching hours, a technical school or a vocational or administrative academy*
• Final examination in a state-recognised training occupation followed by at least 2 years of professional activity related to the degree programme and passing a separate university entrance exam*

*In accordance with the regulation on access for professionally qualified persons to universities in the state of Hesse.

For foreign qualifications, equivalence must be proven for admission.

Further details on specific qualifications are available upon request. Applicants who do not meet the above requirements may initially participate in the programme as guest auditors if they have admission to the HZB examination.

Security has become a central topic in modern societies in view of the numerous current risks, dangers and threats such as terrorism, everyday crime or natural disasters. Therefore, the demand for expertise in security measures has increased. It is to be covered both within companies themselves and by specialised service providers. In the course of the privatisation of state and municipal tasks, this need for protection and security is also recognised and requested by numerous public institutions.

The Bachelor’s degree programme “Security Management” (B.A.) prepares you as a 7-semester online distance learning course for the diverse tasks in the security industry and corporate security. The course integratively imparts the necessary business management, social and legal competences as well as selected technical knowledge. You will learn all the scientific fundamentals of the involved disciplines and know how to apply the instruments of security management confidently. You will be able to analyse and plan security strategies for different fields of activity in the security sector from a business management perspective.

During your studies, you can also choose your personal, professionally oriented focus to further deepen your skills.

Course structure
At DIPLOMA University of Applied Sciences, you have the opportunity to study the Bachelor’s degree programme Security Management as an online course.

The online distance learning programme at DIPLOMA University of Applied Sciences is designed according to the “blended learning” principle. This means you work through the study contents with the help of study materials and attend live online seminars. These usually take place on 12 to 14 Saturdays per semester – in individual cases also on weekday evenings. You can take your exams online or at an examination centre of your choice.

Costs & enrolment
The (online) distance learning programme at DIPLOMA University of Applied Sciences starts every year in the summer semester (April) and winter semester (October). The start date can – after individual review – also be at any other time.
