Koblenz has around 114,000 residents and is a historic city in Rhineland-Palatinate, situated at the Deutsches Eck where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. Over 16,000 students shape the city – primarily through the public University of Koblenz. A private option is the University for Social Design (3 programmes).
The University for Social Design is an unusual offering: 3 programmes focus on social change, social innovation, and transformative processes.
Admission is NC-free.
Here you study how society can be actively shaped – a profile found at hardly any other university.
Koblenz is moderately priced for a university city. The cost of living index is 62 (Numbeo). A shared flat room costs around €370 per month on average – cheaper than Bonn or Cologne.
Bonn (around 60 minutes by train) offers several private universities with a wider range. Mainz and the Rhine-Main area are also reachable. The University of Koblenz (public) has a large selection of subjects for those open to state institutions.
A private university with a unique profile: it trains people who want to actively shape social change. The programmes combine social sciences, philosophy, and practical projects. It is not a traditional business or STEM institution.
Koblenz has a lively city life with an old town, wine taverns, and the Rhine embankment as a meeting point. The university creates a youthful atmosphere. The city is compact and easy to explore by bicycle. The Rhine and Moselle offer water sports and recreation.
If social design and social innovation excite you, the University for Social Design offers a programme unique in Germany. For traditional business or technical programmes, there are better state alternatives in Koblenz or private options in Bonn and Cologne.
