Target groups include school leavers who want to take on responsibility from the start, as well as experienced professionals from security services, police, or the military who aspire to leadership roles or want to reorient their career paths. Career changers from other sectors with an interest in compliance, crisis management, or corporate security will also find an interdisciplinary programme here that combines management, legal, and security skills. The course offer is tailored to future executives and decision-makers who wish to work in the private sector, security authorities, corporations, or critical infrastructures.
What formal requirements apply to the degree programme?
For admission to the Bachelor in Security Management you need:
- General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), technical college entrance qualification or an equivalent recognised university entrance qualification
- Studying without Abitur is possible, e.g. with advanced training (master craftsman’s certificate, specialist qualification, comparable qualification) or professional qualification plus an entrance exam
- No numerus clausus (admission-free, no selection procedures)
Specific professional experience is not required. For professionally qualified applicants without classic university entrance qualifications, admission is possible via alternative routes following individual assessment. Recognition of prior achievements from training, profession or previous studies is examined upon application.
You should bring resilience, willingness to take responsibility, and a structured approach, as the degree programme aims at decision-making skills, crisis management, and leadership qualifications in the security environment. An interest in business and legal topics is an advantage, as is analytical thinking ability and willingness to work interdisciplinarily. Practical experience in security settings, with authorities or organisations can be helpful, but is not a prerequisite. In the Bachelor’s degree programme in Security Management at NBS Northern Business School, you will acquire comprehensive knowledge regarding the protection of companies, infrastructures, and public institutions. From the outset, the programme combines business administration fundamentals with specialised expertise in the fields of crisis and emergency management, compliance, risk analysis, economic crime, and information security. The curriculum is interdisciplinary in design to convey specialist and decision-making skills for future leadership roles.

Course Structure
The programme is organised as a hybrid on-campus course and can be completed either full-time (6 semesters) or part-time alongside work (8 semesters). Both models comprise 180 ECTS credits and allow switching between the time models during the course of study.
In the full-time model, you complete a compulsory internship semester in collaboration with companies in the 5th semester, supported by the university. In the part-time model, practical experience is gained through project-oriented practical assignments in various semesters.
- Full-time: Lectures as a combination of on-campus phases in Hamburg and online live sessions, plus internship semester.
- Part-time: Mainly hybrid teaching (on-campus plus online), practical assignments as an alternative to a fixed internship.
- At study completion: Bachelor’s thesis and colloquium
- Optional semester abroad at one of over 40 international partner universities possible
- Professional guidance by experienced lecturers from practice is an integral component
- Small groups and individual support ensure a personal learning atmosphere

Costs and Financing
For the full-time course, tuition fees start at €475 per month, for the part-time course at €299 per month. Over the entire duration of study, this results in total costs starting at €15,338.70 (part-time) or €18,952.50 (full-time). Prior learning from previous studies or training can reduce the duration of study – and consequently the fees.
