The Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies (HUJS) is a place of lively scholarly engagement with all facets of Jewish religion, history, cultures and societies. The proximity to the historical heritage of the origin landscape of Ashkenaz offers impulses for the work at the university in the scientific as well as in the religious. However, its interest is always in the whole of Jewish cultures across geographical and temporal spaces: in the past and present, as self-conscious Judaism, as Diaspora, and likewise in the Land of Israel.

The HUJS is open to all students and scholars regardless of origin or confession. In the interplay of internal and external perspectives, the university sharpens the view of religion, history, culture and society. Teachers and graduates alike continue to write Jewish history and theology. Thus, as a European center of excellence, it enables various determinations and future perspectives within and outside the Jewish communities of Europe.
