Details
The part-time Bachelor's degree programme in Insurance Management was developed in close coordination with the Hamburg insurance industry and is run in cooperation with the Vocational Training Centre of the Insurance Industry Hamburg (BWV) e.V.
The programme is aimed at employees from the insurance industry who have already completed vocational training as an insurance and finance clerk as well as further training as an insurance specialist and now wish to further develop their expertise and methodological skills through an academic course specific to the sector. The degree is designed to prepare graduates for demanding specialist and managerial roles within the insurance industry.
The course offering builds seamlessly on the further training for insurance specialists, allowing insurance and finance specialists to enter directly into the 5th semester. The completion of the insurance specialist qualification is fully credited.
Study Organisation
The programme is part-time. Lectures take place on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Additionally, a block week is held each semester.
The language of instruction is German; an elective module in Insurance English is offered.
Course Structure
The programme was developed in cooperation with BWV Hamburg. It is a transparent continuing education concept for the insurance industry, offering excellent prospects and a high degree of flexibility: from vocational training, through insurance specialist qualifications to a Bachelor's degree.
The programme imparts business administration, economics, and industry-specific knowledge, thereby laying the foundation for a successful career in the insurance sector. Additionally, methodological skills, soft skills, and intercultural content are taught.
More than 50 per cent of the study content is insurance-specific. The programme includes, among other lectures, Insurance Management, Insurance Marketing, Risk Management in Insurance Companies, Industrial and Commercial Insurance, Actuarial Science, as well as Insurance Law.
Furthermore, an elective area is offered, from which students can choose between Management of Broker and Intermediary Operations, Insurance English, or Specialisation in Personal Insurance. In addition, a business simulation game on the management of an insurance company is conducted. Moreover, an excursion abroad to selected insurers and brokers is planned.
The programme aims to convey the relevant topics in risk and insurance management, to highlight the challenges in specific subject areas and their management, and to demonstrate theoretical concepts and their practical implementation.
