Admission Requirements

With your B.A. in Game Design, you can work as a Game Designer, Producer, or Developer, for example.

To be able to start a university study at Fresenius University, study applicants must demonstrate the qualification required for the studies (university entrance qualification). This is demonstrated by:

  • the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), which entitles you to study at all universities and in all federal states,
  • or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification, which entitles you to study in the corresponding subject and in the federal states specified in the certificate,
  • or the vocational baccalaureate, which entitles you to study at a university of applied sciences or in a consecutive course of study at a university in the federal states specified in the certificate.

Alternatively, you can also be admitted without Abitur or vocational baccalaureate. The following is required for studying without Abitur:

  • You have passed a master craftsman's examination.
  • Or you have a qualification according to the Regulation on the access of professionally qualified persons to universities in the state of Hessen, i.e., either a qualification from a career advancement training of at least 400 hours, a diploma from a technical school or a vocational or administrative academy, or a passed final examination in a state-recognized vocational training with at least three years of subsequent professional experience and passing a separate university entrance examination.
  • For foreign qualifications, equivalence must be proven for admission.

Study Contents and Specializations

The Bachelor's programme in Game Design (B.A.) at Hochschule Fresenius is designed for creative minds aiming for a career in the gaming industry. With an interdisciplinary approach, the study combines art, interaction, and technology to prepare students for diverse career opportunities. The practice-oriented programme not only imparts theoretical knowledge in Game Design and Game Development but also fosters competencies in strategy and media.

Students get to know the entire spectrum of game development, from the initial idea through rapid prototyping to implementation. Emphasis is placed on Game Art and Production, and various elective modules are available for individual specialisation.

In addition, real project work and an internship in the 6th or 7th semester facilitate a direct entry into the industry. Besides technical training, a special focus is placed on the societal and ethical aspects of game development.

During the course of the programme, you will also delve into TWO exciting specialisations, such as Game Art, Future Skills, Game & Business, or Game Technologies.

In the elective field, you choose one out of these 4 modules: Emerging Technology Trends, Business Informatics, Engagement as the Subject of Individual Education, or Digital Program and Project Management.

After graduation, career opportunities include positions within and outside the gaming industry, such as developing interactive applications for education and museums, project management, product development, or creative agencies.
