Who is the Master’s Degree Programme in Cyber Security at HDBW Munich Suitable For?

The Master of Science in Cyber Security programme is aimed at graduates of technical, information technology or business-technical bachelor’s degree programmes who wish to deepen their expertise specifically in the field of IT security and cyber security. It is particularly aimed at computer scientists, industrial engineers, graduates of electrical or information engineering as well as related subjects who are aspiring to a specialist or managerial position in the field of information security, industrial plants, digitisation projects or IT risk management. The English-language programme is intended both for students with initial professional experience and ambitious bachelor graduates who wish to target the international job market or management roles in the IT security environment.

What Formal Admission Requirements Apply for the Cyber Security Master’s Programme?

You need to provide the following formal evidence for admission to the Cyber Security Master’s at HDBW Munich:

• Completed bachelor’s degree in (business) computer science, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, information engineering or in content-related comparable subjects.
• Proof of at least 210 ECTS credits from the first degree. For a bachelor’s degree with 180 ECTS, the supplementation of the missing credits must be individually agreed and completed before the start of studies.
• English language skills at least at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference. Accepted proof includes, for example, TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge certificates or a written confirmation that the bachelor’s degree was completed in English.
• Special regulation for international applicants: If the bachelor’s degree was obtained outside the EU, a one-semester Pre-Master at HDBW is usually mandatory, unless a content-related matching degree and more than three years of relevant professional experience are proven.

For the complete application, a tabular CV, a motivation letter, the bachelor’s certificate and proof of language skills must also be submitted.

Personal Requirements for Success in the Programme

You should have an interest in technical contexts, current IT security topics and digitisation. Analytical thinking and pronounced problem-solving skills are central, as well as a systematic approach to complex technical issues. Important are self-organisation, the ability to work in teams and good English language skills for working in international project contexts. Initial practical experience in IT, programming, network security or industrial projects is an advantage but not mandatory. A willingness to engage with legal and organisational aspects of IT security is also expected. Initiative in acquiring knowledge and enjoyment of practice-oriented solutions will support your success in the programme.

In the master’s degree, you can choose to specialise specifically in Technology (e.g. intrusion detection, digital forensics, system and network security, AI methods) or Management & Organisation (e.g. security governance, compliance, security management).
